Lets look at each of our little off season issues.

1. Hicks/DJ McCarthy issue: Public Severity- 8, Reality- 3

Yes probation and all that stuff looks bad but we were actually praised more then panned. Our Compliance office did a stand out job. We already served our scholarship punishment and only have to worry the little nuisances that come with probation.

2. Lyles tapes: Public Severity- 7 Reality-0

This was an overblown media crap fest that had no business dragging out name through the mud. Seriously this was nothing more then a fly over our plate.

3. Shepard Incident: Public- 8 Reality-4

It sucks to lose him certainly. However our reasons for losing him are not THE TEAM NOR MILES FAULT! This is a player issue, and Sheps alone.

4. Bar Fight: Public-10 Reality-8

This is the only issue where the reality comes close to the public perception. Depending on the following days the reality could actually go lower.

The sky is not falling, our team is not done. Our pieces are all still in place, we will still contend for a title, and at the end of the year I think we're going to be celebrating an awesome season.

I think you are underestimating the severe potential that being on probation puts your program. Any slip up can put your team under secondary offender status and potentially garner a "Lack of institutional control" charge.

In the end, Reality for this is actually a 7 to me.

What Geaux said. This has potential to be bad down the road.

Is this even over yet?

The NCAA may not see it that way.

The only one where the NCAA won't get involved is the worst?

Losing the 118th ranked qb from the previous year isn't an 8

Not even close. This will be bad for a little period of time but the previous 3 involve the NCAA and could be worse. Easily.

One thing to remember here is that we are potentially losing a starter for the next 2 years in Shepard.

With JJ, we are losing a guy that would start for this year at most. One has a much bigger effect. At worst, the bar fight's biggest casualty could be Landry, but I just don't see him getting booted off the taem completely if he's at worst likely pleaded down to a misdemeanor.
