these moves have been commonly discussed, although admittedly some have more smoke than fire:
1. A&M to SEC
2. OU and OSU to Pac 12
3. KU and KSU to Big East
4. TU indy
If this were to occur, Iowa State and Baylor would be the most likely candidates to join a Conference USA or a Mountain West.
The wildcard in this situation is Texas Tech. Would the Pac 12 extend them an invite as well, then pick up a BYU or a Boise for a 16 team conference? Tech almost certainly would need to join an automatic qualifying conference.
The idea of a bunch of Okies and West Texas cowboys traveling to the likes of Berkeley and Palo Alto to watch football makes me giddy.

No one wants to travel way the hell out to Lubbock for mediocrity in every facet whether it's athletics, academics, or anything.
