Construction Engineering Technology vs Const. Management?

I've got a nephew about to enter his first year of college ,and he's trying to decide on either attending a school that has a really good Const. Mgmt program or a school that has a GREAT engineering program.

My question is there much difference in the two degrees. My understanding is that both focus on the managment and business side of construction more than the mathematics side. I could be mistaken though.

ETA: Const. Engineering TECHNOLOGY is the full title of the undergrad program

Probably the same school 95% of the time

but also, like the rest, i've never heard anyone say construction engineering

Do you mean civil engineering?

With an engineering degree you can always do construction management after school...but not the other way around. If you're talking about undergrad...I've never heard of a "construction engineering" degree. They have Construction Engineering (usually with a Proj./Construction management in the title) masters programs within several Civil Engineering schools..but I am not sure this is what you're talking about.

Construction Engineering

is the exact same thing as

Const. Management
. It's just given a fancy name at some schools.

The two are pretty much the same, he'll make more as an engineer. Should be a no-brainer.

ETA: AFAIK one practices with an engineering license, the other doesn't. That's the difference.

LA Tech has that engineering program and from ehat I have heard it is the exact same thing as CM except with the engineering title.

I guess they would just take the general engineering afternoon test of the FE?

TECHNOLOGY might be a key word I left out

Construction engineering technology? These naming conventions are getting ridiculous. Tell him to go into CE and be done with it

I've got a CM degree and from experience, I would say go with an engineering degree

Yeah dude, unless he sucks at math, he should get an engineering degree in the discipline of his choosing and he'll be able to do whatever he wants when he's out of school.

Yea thats what we tell him.

He has a pretty good math mind ,but I dont know if he's the type to put in the time and effort it takes to complete and engineering program. He's thinking of doing Const Engineering and getting a minor in Accounting so he has more options than just field work.

Question:

What good does a minor do if you have an engineering a degree? (a real engineering discipline)

I say it doesnt mean shit

You can tell that whoever comes up with these names have been stuck in the world of academia for quite a while.

Construction engineering can be either electrical, mechanical, structural, or civil engineering but not all of those combined into one super engineer...
