Without a doubt, just look at the number of guys on the 3000 hit list vs the guys on the 600 hr list.

28th person to do it is more impressive than the 8th guy to do it?

baseball is best judged by eras.

Jeter is the one of 2 guys in his era to get 3,000 hits (along with Biggio).

Thome will become the 5th person of his era to get 600 HRs.

I still have recorded on VHS, Thome's debut vs. the Whitesox in May of '92. Wimpy and Hawk pronounced his name Thome (rhymes with Nome) and then it went to the Marica Tome'. It was 19 years ago. He has had a stellar power career and I think 600 is a big # for him and he'll pass Mays.

Both Jeter's 3,000 and Thome's 600 are equal...special in their own way. Jeter's publicity will far outweigh Thome's.

I agree, but I also think that Arod, Ichiro (if he plays until 40 or 41), maybe Pudge, and maybe Damon all have a chance to hit 3,000.

I would put it around equal achievements; however, Jeter's 3,000 will obviously resonate more than Thome's 6000.

At least 20 homeruns in 15 of the last 16 seasons. His liver should have given out by now huh?

I loved Thome in Cleveland and he did too. He cried when he had to leave Cleveland. What a great guy he is. For years stayed with his mom and dad in his old room. Of all the players we have lost Thome and Buddy Bell (my childhood favorite) hurt me the most.

Pudge has 2,842 hits. Absolutely no to that is just silly, but it is not definite either. I think he hits 3,000 and retires at the end of that season.

Ichiro has never had less than 200 hits a year in his MLB career, which started at 27. He has 2,346, but of course it seems like he is starting to slow down. He could do it before the end of the 2014 season if he does not slow down much from his career pace.

He has 2,666. It is not that unlikely that he will try for 3,000.
