IF LSU goes 11-1 in 2011, who is the worst team to which that loss could come?

Finish this sentence:

"LSU will have a realistic shot at the National Championship at 11-1 as long as that loss is not to __________"

Bama, because they would own the tie breaker.

It'd be tough to explain a loss to Northwestern St. or Western Kentucky. But of the realistic loss opportunities, it would definitely be Bama, for the aforementioned tie-breaking reason.

Aha!

That is the debate I envisioned when I posted the question.

Is 11-1, with a loss at home to Northwestern St., with wins over 2 or 3 realistic 11-1 teams in Bama, Oregon, and WVU, good enough to get us in?

I would love to be in the bcs champ game by any means necessary but a loss to some directional state school would make me gut punch sick.

I know how unlikely that is, but I appreciated the poster who actually thought about the big picture and the schedule before he just posted "Bama" like everyone thinks he should.

Arkansas or the SEC Championship Game. Either way, a loss that late in the season puts us into a dead-stick, unrecoverable jetwash that even Maverick couldn't pull us out of.

Most seasons you would be right, and that will probably be the case again this year, but in 2007...

I guarantee that if LSU loses to Northwestern St. then they won't be 11-1 at the end of the season.

It does not matter who we lose to as long as we win the SEC. So we could lose to bama or ARK as long as we still win the SEC West and the SEC. In light of prior history, a one loss SEC Champ is IN.

not if you dont win the division, which is why Bama is the obvious answer.

People keep saying Bama, but Mississippi State is a game that could be a deciding factor in the tie breaker. We play them on a Thursday night at MSU, everything about this game scares me. Also the dreadfull teams as others have said. We also can't lose to Arkansas because a loss that late in he season usually means you are out of the running. Ha so its pretty much go undefeated in SEC play or bust, but I think a loss to Tennessee is very possible and it wouldn't completely keep us out of the Title race.
