It's based on the Bayou Bengals Insider (ESPN)article. Here is some of it:

The 6-4, 200-pounder is leaning toward signing with a school that has strong football and baseball programs, which must be music to the ears of LSU head coach Les Miles. And according to Derek Ponamsky of BayouBengalsInsider.com, the dual-threat has narrowed his choices to LSU, Florida State and Alabama, with the Tigers possibly positioned as the team to beat. According to Ponamsky, a rival coach recruiting Winston said the quarterback “wouldn’t stop talking about LSU” on a visit to his school.
If the Hueytown, Ala., native ultimately ends up choosing to enroll in Baton Rouge, he would get to work with a veteran offensive coordinator in Steve Kragthorpe, who has received rave reviews based on his work with incumbent Tigers starter Jordan Jefferson this spring. Of course, Winston would also face serious competition under center in 2012 with former Georgia Bulldog Zach Mettenberger on the roster. And there’s also Jerrard Randall, who was one of the top signal-callers in the Class of 2011.
But no matter where he decides to play major-college football, competition is inevitable. And Winston is lauded for his competitiveness and toughness both on and off the field.
quote:
Clearly, Winston’s dealing with a full plate, especially when he had his heart set on playing both sports in college. Now, he would just like to make a decision and put one aspect of the process behind him. However, the baseball question will continue to weigh on the recruit’s mind — at least when he isn’t giving opposing defenses fits on the gridiron.
Coming off of a strong showing at the Elite 11 quarterback qualifier in Columbus, where he shared the stage with fellow top quarterback recruits Kiel and Zeke Pike, Winston is looking to improve on a wonderful junior campaign. In 2010, he completed 65.3 percent of his passes for 2,334 yards and 17 touchdowns against just four interceptions. In addition, he carried 128 times for 870 yards and nine more scores in helping lead his team to an 11-2 mark.
The talent is there on the gridiron. Major-college coaches already know that. But the question remains whether Winston will be able to eventually display that talent on Saturday afternoons — or if the dream of being a major-leaguer will be too strong to give up.

What is this guy's projection in the draft? Isn't MLB forcing a slot money now, which should push more HS players to college ball?

late 1st from what i have read, it may be due to his set price of 5.2MM though

frick that, I hope we get another QB then as insurance. If he gets drafted in the first round, good chance he is getting his money.
With the slotted money system, probably will be a good indication on if he will come to LSU or not based on where he is drafted. 1st round pick and a team that spends money, he is gone.

ironically the only other "big time" QB that we have a good chance with is also a big time baseball prospect (Anthony Alford)

Jeremy Liggens
i wouldnt put Liggins up their as "big time" but yeah, he does have an offer
ETA: his weight bothers me, idk why but if he is 270 now and has to fight to drop it, how will he grow in the next 4-5 years

At 6-foot-3, 270 (yes, 270) pounds, the dual-threat star fights off questions about changing positions everyday. Liggins says he needs to be 20 pounds lighter when the season opens in August, but it doesn't consume his thoughts.
"I'll drop it this summer," Liggins said. "It won't be a big deal."

I'd take Alford with him if they both want to play together.
I don't think LSU can afford to cut off recruiting another QB if Winston commits. They should press hard with Alford too. We don't have any good QBs in the state next year projected either right?
So, if we don't get any QBs this year, we'll definitely need 1 or 2 based on certain factors like if Randall moves or by some unseen force, Mettengberger goes to draft. Regardless, if we don't get any on campus this year, we'll need at least one next. The problem with that is LSU will need to do OOS recruiting again for a big time QB...and might get burned. Then all of a sudden depth isn't looking good. So I'd rather them press now for both those commits. If both end up on campus, figure out what to do with them then.

I think he's saying that Mettenberger would be eligible to get drafted after this year.

Winston said in a recent interview that Alabama and Florida State are recruiting him the hardest. It doesn't make sense to me. I thought Alabama had Gunner Kiel ahead of him on their board. But what do I know. I'm just a fan.

Maybe Bama doesn't feel as good about Kiel after his visit? Maybe they expected him to commit and he held off. I doubt he ends up at FSU. It will either be Bama or LSU.
