An article on Rivals talks about upcoming scheme changes and mentions LSU benefiting from Kragthorpe being the new OC. I don't know how to link stuff so I apologize for that and it doesn't go into great detail anywayz. But I definitely agree with it. I had talked about it in another topic about Avery switching away from LSU. I mentioned how with Kragthorpe liking to throw the ball should easily appeal to for sure QBs, pass blocking O-lineman, and definitely TEs and WRs. If I was LSU I would stay putting it Avery's head how a year from now he will have Mettenburger throwin to him, Spencer Ware preventing to many guys from dropping into coverage and making sure opposing defenses keep a safety in the box, and Jarvis Landry preventing Avery from being double teamed. That's a desirable situation for Avery to be in. I can see him putting up big numbers and LSU needs to keep that on his mind. And make sure every other QB(Winston, Alford, Liggins, Cyler Miles, etc.), O-Lineman(Edinburgh, Vadal, Zach Banner, Patrick Miller, etc.), WR(Jason Croom, Marvin Bracy, Davonte Neal, Kwinton Smith, JaQuay Williams, D'Vario Montgomery, etc.) and any TEs that are worth making room for realizes the great position they would be in at LSU Any thoughts?

LSU's personnel is more geared toward a pro style hard-nosed type of offense. Look at the size of the runningbacks and o-linemen coming in. We have interior linemen that are already in the 310-330 range coming out of high school. Our premiere receiver is built for the long ball and the state is finally producing jumbo sized TE's that can block as well as catch. Throw in QB's Zach Mettenberger and Stephen Rivers, and it's obvious that the offense isn't meant for the dink-and-dunk finesse offense that Crowton runs.

How does large lineman constitute a long ball approach as opposed to west coast style?

Seeing these big linemen and runningbacks gives me the expectation that the strategy would be to pound the defense into submission with a punishing running game and once the opposing defense gets worn down, the QB is gonna have all day to throw. Jump ahead by at least 2 scores by the 4th quarter and grind it down with the running game.

Very good post. I have to agree. Talent to be explosive but size to punish.

I like that line of thinking.
