1 - 2 foot seas my arse. We were in steady 3-5's with the wind blowing 10+ knots steady. The forecast is wrong...dont get sucked in!

Oops, current was strong early. We caught a few of everything, snapper, kings, reds, sharks. Nothing really to speak of. We went outta grand isle. Absolutely the roughest day ever

You should have topped it off by jumping in the water and getting sick. Just kidding. Those kind of days suck.

Generally when they are predicting less than 10Knt winds the margin for error is about twice as big as what they say both directions. They just don't have the ability to reliably predict low winds effectively in my opinion.

Did you check the NOAA website and buoy info before leaving? Screw the weather man in the ear with a spear.

We checked every website known to man...except TD. We checked it for a week straight everyday. I know they had some 6 footers in there.

Check the buoy readings next time, they are the most accurate earlier in the year they had 2/3's predicted, we got about 30 miles off and checked the buoys around Marco polo and it was solid 6's, we said frick that, turned around and got drunk and boiled crawfish

Coming out of and crossing the river was pretty rough yesterday. Still, easy limit of red snapper and got my first cobia. Any tips on targeting mangrove?

29' Pursuit. Caught air quite a few times. Not a day for anyone prone to sea sickness.

Cut bait (pogies) or hotdogs... Yes. Hotdogs. Get up current from the rig and chum the mangrove out ofthe bottom of the rig.. Then free spool a piece of the same bait with the hook embedded so it doesn't show. Not a bad idea to use a fluorocarbon leader bc they have good eyesight

NOAA windcast is most accurate place you can check for predictions. Its right about 10% more which puts it at about 30% correct! It shows you the iso-bars so you can see how close the higher winds are. Some days you will see 5kts but 15kts just a few miles away and you know its a crap shoot which one you get. If you see the 5kts bars all around, you know its a damn good chance its going to be right. (my 2 cents)

Don't know how good Pursuits are but we had a 25 ft Grady White and if we ever caught air it would have been b/c we were going to fast. In that size boat 3-5's shouldn't be as uncomfortable as you are saying unless the captain has no clue of how to operate a boat with some common sense. Just my opinion. I can't stand going with captains that go fast when conditions are rough.

We tried this but I'm not sure we were doing it right. Should you see them actually come to the surface? If not, how deep will they be when they come up? Thanks.

3-5's with serious slop and closer together than about 8 seconds will beat you to death in almost anything, whereas 3-5s with 10 second wave period and no slop would be easy sailing.

Been in 3-5's with the 25ft GW we had and it rode great. But I adjust my speed to the conditions. If boat is catching air then you're running too fast for the conditions.

I have to agree. We go out in our baychamp all the time and have never caught air. and we've been in legit 5's.
Trim you motor down dude. Use the boat to break the waves. Keep your eyes ahead of the boat, avoid cresting waves. And slow down.
And you're probably over exaggerating the seas as well. 10kts =/= 5' seas.

Eta: your experience in rough seas is only as good as the guy driving the boat.

Mangrove dude, you should be able to see them if they are there

We have a champion now and it has a great v to cut through the waves. All I know is the women on the boat will not tolerate running fast in a good chop....it hurts their boobs too much
