3 straight for the men and women - pretty much a dynasty.

Didn't aTm build all new track facilities to lure Henry?

He was the man no doubt. We lost a good one.

Built a state of the art indoor facility first and dragging their feet on an outdoor facility. They are busy rebuilding the baseball stadium ($24 million) right now but I think the outdoor track will be the next big project on the list.

I think they did, but Henry wasn't asking that from LSU, just some kind of investment/sign of appreciation.
Skip said no, decided to throw money at womens basketball instead

I'm not sure what's dumber: disrespecting Pat Henry, or people who continue to be surprised at LSU's(i.e. Skip)'s handling of that situation.
Football and baseball are king at LSU. Everything else can just go away for all most LSU people care.
It's sad.
FWIW, track has still done OK despite it all.

Henry wasn't let go because no one cared. Skip and pat always butted heads, and the women's basketball thing/no investment in the t&f program was basically a big f you to pat from skip.

You should probably bitch about it to all those important people you know.

Definitely , our loss was A&M's gain. And although Football is king and always will be and the same view from me, I really do enjoy track and field events and I am always bragging to my friends up here in Montana what it was like to go to a SEC track meet.

Well Skip is gone and Texas A&M has won 6 championships in 3 years.

And I promise you the sport has continued to lose the same amount of money. You win a single title in women's basketball and you likely recoup your investment with ticket sales and concessions.

Money is getting spent on smaller sports no matter what. Track is consistently a top 5 team in the country, I think they have earned the right to be the top priority when that small sport money does get spent.

Unfortunately being the best in T&F is still a loss while being the best in women's basketball may actually get you some money or at least come close to breaking even. You think the administration doesn't understand the financial waters of the sports programs at LSU better than posters on the rant crying about being one of the top 5 programs in T&F because a guy we used to have is winning titles at aTm now? We're still a top program and winning a title won't change the financial truth.

If you want championships and the prestige your school gets from them, you do what you have to do.
I for one, enjoyed going to Bernie Moore to watch meets when I was in BR, and certainly enjoyed hearing about them winning year in year out.
For a long time there, death, taxes, and LSU was winning another women's championship, were 3 certain things in life.

Your line of thinking is how athletic programs find their way to mediocrity.

No, it's how smart athletic departments view financial success. It's football and everything else. But there are a handful of other sports that have value regarding their ability to make some money or at least break even. And then there are those sports where you can win a hundred NC's in a row and it will still be in the red. T&F happens to be in that group.

I wasn't necessarily talking about women basketball. I believe tennis, gymnastics, and soccer are all slated to get facility upgrades, yet the track team doesn't even have a locker room. If you're going to pick a pit to throw money in, it might as well be the pit that is a national power house every year.
