SO I finally coerced the wife into letting me go after a .308. Decided to go with the Remington 700 SPS with an upgraded stock. I wanted to do some longer range shooting (300yds-800yds) and found this to be a suitable option

Specs

Remington 700 SPS Tactical .308 win "20 barrel

Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist A2 Aluminum bedded stock (free floated)

Millett TRS-1 4x16x50mm Illuminated Mil-dot scope

EGW aluminum 15 MOA single piece base

Millett 30mm med. height detachable rings

UTG Tactical "6-"9 bipod

Now.... on to plan my first AR-15 build to be completed by Christmas.

Damn fine.

My next acquisition will either be something very similar to that or an AK.

The AK was actually my first purchase. My definite #1 choice in a SHTF situation from 0-100yds.

Now I can reach out and touch someone clear out to 1000yds if necessary. Taking her to the range tomorrow to start sighting in and finding the ammo she likes best.

Let me know how that scope holds up. I have a Nikon Buckmaster 4-14x40mm on my SPS and I find the clicks are very consistent and the glass seems to be clear enough during the day (haven't tested it out at dusk yet). But at the yardage you want to shoot you will find consistent clicks are absolutely necessary.

same stock as you and that's a Wyatt's Outdoor detachable box magazine bottom metal. Works flawlessly and half the price of the Badger setup.
Harris bipod and Leupold mount and rings.

SHTF:

Romy G build 7.62x39

or

Rock River Arms upper, Mega Machine lower and CMMG parts.
