Women in 2nd with 22.5 points. 15 and a half ahead of Texas AM. Men are tied for 6th with 17. They still have both relays, triple jump, 200m, and most importantly 110h left to score. Damar Forbes deserves recognition for launching a 27 foot jump for a big 2nd place upset.

Both teams have done exceptionally well with Florida's men suffering a big setback with Demps in the 100. The team races are just starting to heat up. Texas AM is about to make their presence felt in these 400 finals

Men have 15 and women 8. That will go up by about 15(mens) and 6-10 after the 400 though.

Cassandra Tate just got DQ'ed from the 400 meter hurdles. That's a big minus 4 from LSU and plus 1 for TAM. 5 point swing

Why does that matter? Who are they behind?

Because A&M, along with Oregon, are the main competition.

Rachel Laurent just got 3 points. TAM women got 10 in the 400. LSU is going to go in to tomorrows meet down 1.5 to TAM with an extra scoring oppurtunity but a weaker 4x4 than TAM. Oregon will probably be around 15 point ahead

Oregon is in the driver seat. LSU really shot themselves in the foot when they didn't qualify any 100 hurdlers and Brittney Hall didn't qualify. Typical Shaver coached team. Mistakes at the most inopportune moments.

I think based on the formchart A&M is favored by a point over Oregon and 3.5 over LSU.

I don't see how you can attribute Brittany Hall failing to qualify (since Shaver doesn't coach her) and Jasmin Stowers falling at regionals to Shaver. It's like attributing A&M's 4th ranked 100m runner failing to make the final or their 4th ranked hurdler not making the final to Pat Henry.

Why not point out that Kimberlynn Duncan was not predicted to score in the 100m and ended up 2nd? Or Charlene Lipsey wasn't predicted to make the final in the 800 and ended up 4th?

You are right, this year the only major mess up was one of the top 400H in the country finishing in the wrong lane. That's a huge lapse of judgement, though, and I've watched LSU year after year at Nats under Shaver and there always seems to be 2-3 huge lapse in judgements such as missed handoffs, false starts, disqualifications, horrible race tactics, etc. Because Shaver picks his staff he is, as he should be, held responsible for the continual underwhelming performances at Nats under his guidance. Just as Les Miles was blamed rightly for keeping Crowton around, Shaver gets the blame for the mistakes.

The reason I am so adamant about these costly errors being fixed is because I know how good of a team LSU is and they can, and should, be winning far more titles (national) than they have under Shaver. He needs to be more open to others and not hide away in his office and for crying out loud, get a grad assistant for the distance program since Elliot couldn't care less about his team!

frickKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK! I have been watching it here in KC tonight. The track was wet and somehow that 100 semi and the 400 just freakin killed us plus that loss on the 400 hurdles! Coach S needs to freakin go. Lsu is underpaying for a coach and we are losing to Pat again this year!

What are you nimrods talking about? Both teams have exceeded their expectations so far. We're in as good of position going into the final day as could be realistically expected. Take care of business in the 200m, and the women have got this.

We were #1 or 2 for the most part all season and this is about a 5th or 6th depending on what happens. At best a 3rd.
That is what i am talking about. How many indoor and outdoors has he won since Pat has established his program at TAMU? I sat in the standard at BM since '83 watching T&F remember all the greats and think we are on a downward swing. Dominance in Women is not there and the men are going to be way out of it. FSU or TAMU will win the NC for the next 2 years for certain the way their men are performing.
The mental mistakes like running out of her lane or not knowing where the finish line was are something PH wouldn"t allow to happen.

When has an LSU woman last won a shot put, long or high jump title? Where is Boo and others in all of this? Gone.

Semoy Hackett misjudging the finish line in the 100 cost us points too.

The sign of Pat Henry's teams was that they always performed well in the clutch, and peaked at the right time.

Shaver's, not so much.

The better question is how often is a national title decided by the shot or high jump? The recruiting resources that would have to be burned to get the top shot putter in the nation would be much better used on a sprinter who can score in 2 events and 2 relays. The only schools who go after 1 event specialists are teams that can't give scholarships to the big point sprinters anyway.

The common denominator for all high level teams the past few years (excluding Oregon, who Nike gives an unfair advantage in distance events) has been excellent sprinters. This year is no exception with LSU, TAM, Florida, and Florida St all relying entirely on sprint recruits.

The formula works and it is one that Henry and Shaver use. The thing Shaver has to compete against that Henry never did is Henry at A&M and thats why he isn't as dominant.

Men's Triple Jump going on right now. With LSU, Florida, and Texas A&M all having two good scoring opportunities in it, this is going to set the course of the Men's title. After the first flight, Florida's top guy has launched a jump that should hold up for first place. Zedric Thomas of LSU is fifth and Blaise is in flight 2. We need Thomas to hold on to 9th place to make the finals and get 3 more jumps. Blaise making the final would help too, but Zedric has a lot more potential for a 3rd/4th place jump.

Yeah that jump is sick. We're going to need flawless relays to pull this out. I'm hoping the A&M 400 guys will have the sting taken out of them since three have run rounds and two have run finals.

Oregon will most likely take the womens title though. They have too many runners still in it.
