Forget Six Alex's "agony" at leaving Berbatov in the locker room for the most important match of the year. Overlook his majesty calling the Premier League's top scorer "too slow" to compete against Barcelona. Ignore all the diplomatic post-match commentary on all sides.

Berbatov is history at MU, citizens.

Comment: Is it just me, or was SAF's decsion to start and stay with Chich (who contributed little more than three offsides and a deer-in-the-headlights look) for "experience" just a bit counterintuitive?

He had 3 in the first 10 minutes.

Ferguson let his ego cloud his decision to start Hernandez over Berbatov. Berbatov's lack of recent production is due to his lack of PT, not from bad form. Berbatov's big game match experience dwarfs Hernandez's, who was scared of the center backs who started for Barca. Even with the decision not to play Berba, Ferguson should've deployed a 4-5-1 with Rooney as the long ball/counter point man. Give me Giggs/Nani/Rooney/Berba over Giggs/Rooney/Valencia/Hernandez every day of the week.

Berbatov was in bad form. I agree that some of this was due to lack of PT. However, Chicharito played for MUFC a good bit in the Champions League. I would have started Chich over Berbatov all day long. He was leading MUFC in goals in the Champions league.

ETA: He had 4 goals, 1 Assist in 9 Appearances. However, in 3 appearances he played 15 minutes or less.

Yep and the start was correct. He should have been subbed for as he was useless. What? Oh Chicharito just got called offsides again!!!

I was hoping for something a little more serious.

yep. I think Sir Alex was too focused on trying to stop them when he should have realized you can't stop them.

I had no problem with this. But once it became obvious that Chich was in way over his head, I would have had Berbatov at the ready.

Won't go so far as to say this is SAF's loss, but it was one of his worst game plans ever.

Berbatov wasn't even able to be subbed in. Sir Alex went with Michael Owen instead.

My point exactly. With all due respect to Owen, painful to watch.

agreed. I mean I like Owen he was my favorite player years ago but he isn't the caliber of player Berbatov is. This felt like the whole plan was to slow FCB down instead of out scoring them and it didn't work.

Yeah. Didn't work. Barca was probably unbeatable yesterday. Have you ever seen a club pass that well?

yeah but it would have been a much better game had Man U. gone heavy offensively.

Yea, I hear ya. Sir Alex knew the midfield was the key to this game. I think that is why he went with Owen. But hindsight is 20/20.
