How far out of first did Jerry Stovall finish in the Heisman voting?

As a guy that saw him play at LSU and in the NFL...off the field, meek and mild; on the field, he was meaner than a junkyard dog!!!

it was the closest vote in the heisman up until that point I think
plus Stovall was royally screwed by the Heisman that year, should have been a runaway winner

Terry Baker had some sort of handicap like a crippled left arm or something. It was just Coach Stovall's bad luck to be going up against the sympathy vote that year.

Stovall was the best. Stupid ala. South voted for lee Roy Jordan was the reason Jerry Stoval no. 2. Stovall 9 year NFL player and multi All Pro yrs. as well as Dentist in 2nd career, he was the best.

Stovall was a nice guy off the field.....but he was not a dentist. The theory is that voters didn't want to give Stovall their vote since another LSU halfback (Billy Cannon) had won it just a few years earlier.

He isn't a dentist.
He probably "removed" some teeth in his day.
