I stopped by the academy on siegen yesterday and was surprised to see about 20 or so refurbished baitcast reel & rod combos selling for $49.99 each. Although there were a few turds in the bunch it was mostly pretty good stuff ! Nearly all the rods were castaways and all stars and some were paired up with quality mid level baitcasters. I was told that when they first put em out there were several high end reels as well.
I ended up buying a combo with a 9 bearing pinnacle reel and a sweet little 6'6" castaway mh rod both of which looked absolutely brand new.
Thought I'd share this with my fellow OB posters , didn't see anything about it when I searched.

They put them out every so often.
I got a silvermax and an American Rodsmiths ML trout rod with 7 or 8 inches broken off that's a perfect topwater rod. Last year I also got a Revo S in good shape on an all star, I ended up putting it on a different rod. They're pretty good deals, and if you look every now and then you can find a grea deal

Found a deal awhile back but not in a store, bought SHIMANO CALCUTTA 400B for 35 bucks and a few weeks later an All Star 7'2'' rod for 25. The reel retails for 229.99 and the rod for 99.00.

I bought some kinda cheapo refub reel from there a few years back for about $20. Seemed very nice and smooth in the store. Brought it home, spooled it up, caught 3 specks, grenaded it fishing a topdog

Tried mine out yesterday and loved it ! Hopefully it'll hold up, a friend of mine has several pinnacle reels that he has used and abused for years still going strong !

Not necessarily. When I got my refurb Revo S it was in the 4th or 5th batch they put out (I went to Academy weekly last summer out of boredom. Summer classes ) You just have to get lucky and go after they put out a new set
