"This is certainly a win we needed, and we got the job done tonight," said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. "I was really encouraged by the resiliency of our team after a tough stretch of games. We had a great batting practice before tonight's game, and there was a lot of life in the dugout. I thought our pitchers threw well, and we came through with a few clutch hits. The most encouraging aspect tonight was our defense - we made some great plays at key moments in the game."

Funny how you rantards don't point out when CPM praises his team, but love to dog him for "throwing the players under the bus"

Why should we care?
It was Alcorn State.

a win is not a win when referencing teams such as Alcorn.
However, seeing as we have problems with teams such as Northwestern State then I can see how elated you must feel with such a victory.

3. How many do you expect them to score in? 7? 8? 9?

Throwing 6 pitchers in a game and giving up only 3 hits to any team is really good. Also threw a lot of young guys last night including 3 freshmen and 2 sophomores that only gave up 1 run.

What the hell does this matter?? Go look at line scores from major league games and you'll see that teams don't always score in every inning.

Vanderbilt scored 1 run against Middle Tennessee State on Tuesday but won. While coastal Carolina put up 7 against Virginia and still lost.

I know it may not be obvious, but you win by scoring more runs than your opponent, not by how many innings you score a run in.

Three game notes:

1) A real good pitching performance by some arms that really don't get to see the weekend all that much. Maybe some can catch fire and make an impact in relief roles in SEC games going forward. Garrett, Rumbelow, Peterson, and Cotton. The starting pitchers sure need that help and fast.

2) I've been calling for CPM to move Mahtook up into the 3 hole. Nice to see this change. I hope he sticks with this for the weekend.

3) Alcorn committed 4 errors. This is a big reason LSU won the game so decidedly and very similar to how this LSU team racked up early season victories. The offense didn't fix anything during these two weekday games, unfortunately.

To close, all it takes is one complete weekend series to turn a team's attitude(and karma) around for the rest of the season. This team has it in them, I guarantee. Let's start this thing against Auburn.

I'm the idiot???? According to you rantards, he always "throws his players under the bus" when talking to the press. Just wanted to point out that it goes both ways.. he praised his players for a good effort last night.

i have said he throws his players under the bus. and he does. no doubt. i think that should be left in the locker room.

however, if you think he is the man for complimenting his players for that effort, you have issues. should the players just quit? should they get a cookie for doing what they are supposed to do?

defend him all you want. dont try to call out other people with that weak stuff

How often are the things quoted from him when he is not talking to the press?

I don't think I have ever heard him do this. Wht I HAVE heard him say is" look, it all begins and ends with the head coach.I am the head coach and the responsibilty is ultimately mine.".
