Is there a difference in the breed of tiger that reps LSU and Auburn? No real need to know just curious.

We hate that War Eagle is a cool, unique mascot, yet they insist on calling themselves Tigers for no reason.

LSU's tiger is a Bengal/Siberian mix that will grow to about 700 lbs.

Auburn doesn't actually have a tiger, just a a fluffy costume of a tiger that is meant to look like Col. Reb with big white eyebrows and big white sideburns and a white beard.

FWIW, when I was in school at LSU in the early to mid 1970s, the name "Tigers" was never used at Auburn. They were known as the Plainsmen and/or the War Eagles. Yeah, I know, their fans today will claim that "War Eagle" is just a cheer, but they were known as the Plainsmen and the War Eagles back then, take your pick. I remember seeing game day programs with the name "War Eagles" on it both at LSU and at Auburn (I was in Tiger Band and we travelled for a road game there in 1973).

The name "Tigers" did not emerge at Auburn until sometime in the 1980s--for what reason is anyone's guess. Why "Tigers" now; who knows?

The auburn tiger is a mythical breed that screams war eagle, it does not roar. It would best be compared to a unicorn…….

Either that or it has been castrated and they think that God awful sound coming from it is war eagle. You know like people who think their dogs can talk………………..

Isn't it manditory to have more than one mascot in Alabama to make it easier for their fans to know what they are?
