Turkey Hunting Problem

This morning and all the other times I have had a tom coming in, he stops about 120 yds away and shuts up. Last year I was told I called too much on his way in. (yelps and cuts) Today I laid off (called every 3rd or so gobble) still no bird. What says the OB?

Too much. When he gobbles dont answer him right away. That tells him your comin to him. Lay off awhile make him come lookin

It could be calling too much but it could also be a matter of your setup.

Be patient with your calling. If he answers your call stop and wait until he gobbles again . Which means he is looking for the hen. Also helps if you get in front of the turkey (what mott was saying). Very hard to call a bird back where he has already been.

If every tom turkey you called came all the way in there wouldnt be many turkeys left. For a bird with a brain the size of a pea, they have serious survival instincts. Its best not to overthink it, I prefer to focus on you're successes. Pat yourself on the back since you got him coming, next time try it differently perhaps a new set up, throw in a decoy, and maybe you'll get you're bird.
Every property has an enigma tom, he gobbles at everything and hangs up at 50 yds. You can kill him, but you need two people. Set the shooter 40 yards ahead of the caller and between the caller and turkey. Ol' big tom will be too busy looking for the caller and will end up in the lap of the shooter. I've seen this strategy work many, many times on stubborn gobblers and encourage you to try it.

I agree with the previous comments...
Your responding too quick.. and too much.
