I have never fished a lot but am starting too. Always went with friends. What are good baits to use for current weather? Fishing a rather shallow pond by the house with my 3 year old boy.

Should I use spinner bait, worms, crank bait? Or just try them all.

Thanks for any help.

You listed some of the best lures to use I assume for bass fishing. I'd start with a worm by fishing it slowly on the bottom of the pond. When the weather warms up, topwater fishing is my absolute favorite

Spinnerbaits to start the day. Once the sun is up worm fishing.

Also, for your son, set up a sac a lait jig and cork for him to fish along the bank. That will catch bream, sac a lait, bass and catfish.

Buy a pack of watermelon/red senkos. I found they do great in small ponds. Texas rig them but dont sink the hook deep into the worm.
Also try beetle spins ..I used to use white with the small red or black dot and kill the bass in a pond when I was younger..Good Luck

I'd let the little guy use live bait. Shiners on a hook about a foot under a cork will catch about anything.

If you dont want to fight with live bait then I'd set him up with a sac-a-lait jig and cork rig like mentioned earlier

Thanks a bunch to everyone.

Question - what is a sac-a-lait rig and cork? I will try to look it uo online. This sounds Luke the route I would like to go since I can see sac-a-lait and other small fish right on the bank.

Again, thanks a bunch

If you're fishing with your kid, go buy some nightcrawlers. It'll get him hooked.

I am scoping out the local nightcrawlers for him to see which is best. Gonna give him his shot next weekend.

just put some break on a hook and a cork. That'll work for your son. You should be using everything until you find what there biting. Right now its the spawn so stay shallow. They won't be hungry, but they'll be defensive....
