Who it the best in town? Trying to sell my house and I'm not there so I can't do it. Price is main concern - as long as quality is decent.

Also, is it normal for them to give discounts if I want them to do it every other week and every week once it gets into summer? I normally mow so this if new to me.

Thx

I don't know how everyone does it, but I used to require a yearly contract. I would mow 42 times/year, which meant every other week from Nov thru Feb. Then it was weekly. I determined the price per visit, multiplied by 42, then divided by 12 (months). Whatever that figure was, they paid it every month whether I did it twice or 4 times. That way I always had the same amount of monthly income.

I gets mine...but I don't get it that way anymore. Never could understand all the other guys in town blowing thru money during the growing season, then asking if I need help during the winter so they could pay their bills. I didn't need help, because I had half the work I did in the summer...even less than half, really, since nothing was growing. I was basically just keeping leaves off the grass. Instead, I hunted and fished during the winter...and the income never wavered.

And another thing. Contracts renewed on May 1st. I knew if I tried to renew them on Jan 1st, they would be less inclined to renew, since I wasn't doing much for them at the time. But on May 1st, they needed me.

So no summer/fall package pricing? Guess I'll have to call two or three and get some quotes. I've paid for cuts while I was out of town but $45-$50 for my yard is nuts. I can see them charging more for one-offs tho.

Oh I'm sure plenty of them do summer packages. I just said I didn't. I also didn't go hungry in the winter...

Nah, during the growing season, they made more than I did. They just blew thru it. My contract included mowing, edging, weed eating, weeding, pruning, and monthly irrigation and lighting inspections. Any time I planted flowers, applied mulch, fixed irrigation, changed a lightbulb, or whatever wasn't included...I charged extra. Most of the "lawn guys" didn't know how to do a lot of that stuff...or didn't care to. Not a bad living...kinda miss it. But I'm almost as old as you now, so I can't do that anymore. Now I just climb on roofs around the country.
