Assuming there are a few business travelers on this board, what do you guys think of Southwest's new Rapid Rewards program?

Link doesn't work.

I travel every week and fly only Southwest.

I'm undecided. I'm an A rated customer, but I believe they recently changed the requirements for companion pass. I was right there, now I have a little ways to go.

I make the same flight often for personal travel, not business. Given how few points the new program gives me for the flight I always take, the new program is worse than the old 16 points = 1 free flight.

However, the way to benefit from the new program is to use the daylights out of their Rapid Rewards Credit Card, which I got last year. If you use that to its potential, the new program is significantly better, at least for me and the flight I take all the time. I really had to hammer out the numbers to see that, in case you're curious

What route do you fly most?

Old Southwest program was hands down the best program for domestic travel. The new program still seems good, but doesn't fit my vacation style. I travel for work and redeem for vacation. When redeeming I try to get the most value out of my miles, so I used to redeem Southwest awards for tickets that were more expensive than I'd pay out of pocket for or go as far as I could. Now my redemption flights would typically not be as good of a value, however if you are going to visit family in Birmingham or Dallas, it's still ok.

Personally, all my miles are with US Airways and American to take advantage of the Star Alliance and One World partnerships. The best redemption value for your miles, in my mind, is on international business class flights. So, I like programs that allow a wide range of airlines for redemption.

Yeah I'm an A-Lister on Southwest *cough cough* and I travel every week for business.

I agree with everything the previous posters have said so i'll talk about what they didn't.

The rewards available now are much more extensive. Where previously you could only redeem credits for domestic flights you can now trade "credits" for some pretty good deals (not like $#($& EFFING HOTEL POINTS) on gift cards, cruises etc.

Plus having access to International flights is a pretty sweet bonus.

SUPPOSEDLY, they're eliminating the "seat restriction" on the reward flights which made emergency/short-notice bookings impossible unless you flew out Thursday and back on a Tuesday. I just had a co-worker who booked one though and said it was still the same &$*&^ availability.
