A.P. story that Wainwright will not play this year. He will need surgery to repair a ligament in his elbow.
Had soreness toward the end of last season and did not pitch in September.
Threw in batting practice on Monday and felt soreness the next day. Got an examination from two Doctors who said surgery is needed.
Why did not the Cardinals and / or Wainwright have it checked out last August?
This seems to happen a lot in professional sports.

From what I read they had it examined at the end of the season last year and decided he didn't need surgery.

Players go through medical before they even throw for the first time once they report to Spring Training. If something was really messed up, they would've had a clue and wouldn't have allowed him to throw.
