It's only one series against a mediocre team (being kind)...but im bored..

Here's my prediction..

Batting-----

Avg: Rhymes...i think he's the real deal and will see decent pitches.

HRs: Mahtook...guy is just a beast and likes to pull it to left.

RBIs: Katz...Mahtook is gonna get walked alot i think and Katz will also get a fair share of extra base hits...he's a great hitter/slugger

Walks: Mahtook...just because of the intentionals...although he's probably too aggressive to take this category.

SBs: Jones...because i think he'll be on base
more than Watkins.

Triples: Jones

Doubles: Nola...just because

Pitching--------

ERA: Ott...if he isnt overused...easy call

Wins: Alsup...might get that Bradford kind of role...which would give him more W opportunities...although i dont think he should be in that role.

Saves: ummm...OTT

ERA out of the Starters: Eades...think he has the best "stuff"...and his stamina will get better soon.

...I know there are other stats...but just kept it fairly simple...

Why would Alsup be used in a Bradford role? That's the second time I've seen someone say that today.

well he'll lead the team in steals by default basically

he walks/gets hit quite often, so i think he'll lead that category thouhg Mathook will walk a lot

and last year Landry led out team with 6 triples. Watkins had 5 in 123 ABS. Most regulars had over 230 ABS

he's just the smart choice to take those categories, imo.

why by default? mahtook led the team last year. i understand watkins was hurt for a month, but i still don't think it's a given watkins will lead the team in sb unless you're under the impression mahtook won't attempt to steal as much this year. with his mentality on the baseball field, i just don't see that happening

mahtook started 2x's as many games last year.

plus he is one of the few SB threats on the team. he'll run a lot.

Mahtook will probably start more games this year as well. He is also one of the few SB threats on the team and will run a lot as well. Still not seeing how Watkins is to be the leader "by default"

mahtook batted leadoff after watkins got hurt. he wont be in the same position to run as much batting in the middle of the order.

and when he wasnt hitting leadoff he was batting 6th or 7th.

just different circumstances.

unless Watkins absolutely wets the bed, he'll be in the lineup all year. I dont see him wetting the bed though. Even when he slumped last year he was still valuable getting on base. He had one of the better OBP on the team despite his average dipping to 270 before he was injured

Watkins had one more steal than Mahtook at the time of his injury. Mahtook took over the leadoff spot which helped his steal numbers.

Mahtook won't steal as much batting cleanup.

I think Mahtook is one of those guys, like Blake Dean, that will start every game, including midweek games. I could def see Watkins getting days off. I'm not saying Watkins won't end up leading the team in SB, but I don't think it's as clear cut as you do

also another thing that must be noted, is our style of play will be different this year with the new bats. obviously it didn't show as much this weekend outside of hanover bunting, but once SEC play starts and we have to manufacture runs more than just by extra base hits, i think you'll see plenty of SB attempts by Mahtook, even with him batting clean up. also, as is very evident by past years under PM, the current batting order will probably not remain as is the entire season.
