Here's why it's idiotic to think that Miles wasn't offered...

Miles has compiled one of the most impressive records in college football in his time at LSU. He is 62-17 as the LSU coach in 6 years, compared to Michigan's record of 42-33 during the same period. Miles has won 23 games over foes ranked among the nation's top 25, and has five-straight recruiting classes ranked among the top 10 in the nation, including the nation's No. 1 group in 2009. Add to it that Miles has won a National Championship over - you guessed it - Ohio State.

Now, does anyone in their right mind believe that Michigan would rather have a relatively unproven coach at San Diego State over a "Michigan Man" with these kinds of skins on the wall? If you believe that, you are simply out of touch with reality. If you really believe Michigan offered the former head coach at Ball State and San Diego State over the current head coach at LSU, I've got some beach property I'd like to sell you.

More importantly, Chicken and Belowpar both said he was offered.

The negotiations just never reached a point where the two parties could agree. "Offer" is a subjective term here. Michigan met with Miles with every intent on him being the next coach.

I heard earlier on 870 am thatthe offer was close to $3 mil per, $500k towards the buyout, and a "small pool" for asst. coaches. miles wanted "top coach" money and his agent told UM to come back this am with a better offer. they didn't...so he stayed. it's not exactly the loyalty aspect so many here have lauded him for. to quote a terrible song from a decade ago, "it's all about the benjamins."

That sounds right. He was offered over a million less per season than he is currently making and had to pay an additional million of his own money towards his buyout.

With that ridiculous offer does it sound like they were really making an honest attempt at hiring Les Miles?

without looking up what they were paying rich rod or knowing the specs of hoke's contract, I would guess the miles offer falls somewhere in the middle. I think they were banking on miles looking to get out of baton rouge because of the assholes that constantly give him hell and they over-estimated how badly he wanted to be back in ann harbor.
