A Season of Mystery to Me and it continues

Has anyone else noticed the irony in this whole Les Miles to Michigan situation?
Miles endures an entire season of ridicule from a small, but vocal, group of Negatigers who want to get rid of him because he can't beat Florida or Alabama or Ole Miss. So, he beats Florida and the excuse is that Florida's program is down this year. Next, he beats Alabama who had already lost to SC, so it wasn't a "big" win. Finally, he beats a terrible Ole Miss team, but it still wasn't good enough. He loses 2 games all year, on the road, to the #1 and #8 teams in the BCS poll by 8 points or less in the 4th quarter, but now the Negatigers say that he didn't win the SEC West or the BCS National Championship, so he should be gone. Finally, he convincingly beats an average #17 BCS ranked aTm team, essentially on the road in Texas, to finish 11-2. A great season for any program (except the 2 teams in the BCS Championship game).
Now, Miles' supporters (of which I still am and will always be) say we want to keep him and he deserves a raise, if needed, to keep him or at least a contract extension or both, but Negatigers are lining up their list of potential candidates hoping Miles doesn't let the door hit him on the way out to Michigan, despite having been the most successful coach in LSU history (results don't lie).
Miles has gone from loved to hated to loved more times than I can count this past season (after NC - hated, after UT - hated, after Fla - loved, after Ala - loved, after Ark - semi-hated, after aTm - loved), but he is still loved and hated by a lot of LSU fans. He makes a lot of money (I think he deserves and earns every penny he is paid), so some people say that it comes with the job.
It amazes me that everyone cannot get behind the LSU coach, whoever it might be. Let's face it - we all want to win it all every year - players, coaches and fans. We are all riding on the same boat every year, yet we have some many fans paddling in different directions. Some of these fans are so vocal and idiotic that it filters out to the national press which makes our fan base a laughing stock to the entire football world.
Now we have some fans, who were calling for Miles' head in September, saying in January that they can't believe he might leave to go to a lower-tier program in a lower-tier conference. The SEC conference is the Mecca in College Football. LSU is one of the SEC football giants in the Mecca of College Football. Nobody should be able to hire our coach without our permission. Nobody! But the fact of the matter, if Michigan pays as much as we offer and gives Miles a 5 year guaranteed contract, he will be in the same shape financially as he is in at LSU and their fans will support him. Yes, he will be taking a risk to try to rebuild their program when he has already helped build LSU's program, but at least it will be in a family atmosphere since he was raised by their family.
I don't mind fans questioning a called pass play here or a called run play there or even questioning playing time for a particular player over another player. That is part of Monday morning quarterbacking that we enjoy. We all do it. But it is time for us to leave our - "I wish LSU Coach ____ would get fired" talk at the door and off the internet and get behind our LSU Coach, whoever it might be. That should apply in all LSU sports, not just football.
Wouldn't it be great to be known as a fan base, with one of the best and highest paid coaches in the BCS, with a team fighting for the BCS title, year in and year out, who is always behind their coach, win or lose, thick or thin, rain or shine, and who is never mentioned by any other school when they are looking for a head coach because it would be futile to even try?
College football fans are fickle, I know that. I've been an LSU fan for over 40 years - I've seen the highs and the lows, but I have always been a supporter of whoever is coaching our Purple & Gold team.
Coach Miles - we love you and we hope you stay at LSU. I only hope that it is not too late for you to realize that our fan base is in the majority and we support you.

Miles is going to base his decision on two factors. The money being offered and the geographical location he feels most comfortable with. What the fans have to say is probably of little regard in his deciosion making process.

Can we stop with the ultra gay nega and posi tiger stuff. Its embarrassing.

Where he really wants to live and where he feels he can be successful for years to come. IMO

Nice Read......
I've always been a Miles supporter and on occassion I've questioned some of the things he has done, but who hasn't. Though you're right It's hard to argue the fact that he is hands down LSU's best all around coach proof's in the pudding...And yet the idiot's(negatigers) will be unhappy spoiled chode munching asshat's that have gotten so spoiled by recent success that it's become this win it all or fire the guy mentality..and the media picks up on this b/c it's news worthy of what a select group of half retarded internet posters say and it's makes us look bad...When really and truely he's always been the best coach for the job and the best fit b/c he's a little bit strange like many of us who call the Bayou home...

I don't think it was an entire season cause after the win over Florida on the road things calmed down a tad and then after the LSU beat down of Bama the "Negatigers" all but disappeared for the most part. Now, some will never enjoy Miles cause he's not Nick or cause they are more into "looks" than results, but the tone on this forum has changed substantially since the Florida win. imo
The chatter bout his contract and what should be done to keep Coach is a valid discussion to have cause he got that contract for winning the SEC and a NC. He hasn't done either or won the west since 07 and there is no way around that fact.
Another point is, how much can LSU afford to play its football coach during these times. I mean, as much as I like Coach and respect what he has done for LSU and me as a fan, can LSU do much better than 4 mil at a time when the state is cutting funding and LSU employees are being laid off???
I would like Coach to stay and have NO desire to gamble on a new hire at this time when the coach we have has the best results in LSU history, but if Michigan wants him and is willing to better his pay...I just don't know how much more LSU can pay or should be willing/expected to pay than what we are.

I believe in standing behind Les through thick and thin, When he is doing good cheer him on, when he is doing bad thats when we need to pick him up and cheer even louder for him..

If Miles leaves, our chances of winning a BCSNC in the next 5 yrs increases big time.
Programs that change coaches have won all of the BCSNC's excepte Mack Brown.
Odds of winnng NC in the next 5 years if Miles stays are very low, no matter the talent. nJust how the odds work.

Sorry, but this reply makes no sense to me. What about Pete Carroll? I don't think most coaches win the BCS their first or second year. At what point do you draw the line to say that a coach is a new coach or a returning coach. Sorry, but I don't think it increases LSU's odds of winning the BCS to get a new coach.

Les Miles is such an honorable and wise man, I think he may stay, despite the highly-publicized disrespect he has endured from a loud minority of so-called Tiger fans. Lesser men would probably be anxious for any decent opportunity to get the hell away from such a spoiled and ungrateful fan base.
But Les Miles knows he is in a great spot, because he is wise enough to understand that you must always accept both the good and the bad in any situation in life, and the Mad Hatter (more than any other LSU coach without Louisiana ties in my memory) fully appreciates the very special gumbo of ingredients that flavors the spicy LSU football experience.
He is so much wiser than Saban. Despite the relentless grumblings by the negatigers, Miles knows the plusses associated with our rabid LSU fan base far outweigh the negatives.
Miles won't have his head easily turned by another attractive opportunity. He will consider his options very carefully and make a thoughtful decision.
Of course, Michigan is his alma mater, and he will no doubt feel strong loyalty to help return greatness to that storied football program. And if he does go, he is certainly to be admired for that decision.
But I believe in the end he will stick with LSU, despite the crap he knows he must always accept from a highly vocal minority of the "fans" here.
Remember, back in 2007, Les already knew that he loved being the LSU coach. When the rumors were flying, he told us he wasn't going anywhere. He said he was not going back to his roots in Michigan. Instead, he proudly proclaimed that he and his family were now "home" in Louisiana.
I believe Coach Miles will meet and listen, primarily out of respect for his alma mater. And then he will weigh it all, and I think he will again proclaim that he is already home.
Coach Miles is too wise to be fooled that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence.
He knows his grass, and he knows the best grass is in Tiger Stadium.
But, whatever he decides, I will always believe that Les Miles was the best thing to happen to LSU football in my 40 years of Tiger fandom.
Thanks for the wild ride thus far, Coach Miles. I hope with all my heart that you still consider LSU your home and that you keep our beloved Tiger football program going strong for many more years to come.
