Skip just wanted to put a price on it but clearly he didn't want to make it so high that Miles could never afford to go to Michigan. Just enough that it would hurt and LSU would get compensation. You can be sure that if Skip had said "$10 million if you go to Michigan" that Miles never would have signed the contract. Miles always wanted the option to go to Michigan, but he understood the Skipper's need to spell out the penalty for such a move.
The Nose Knows how to negotiate and he knew how devestating it would be to lose our coach with a national title on the line. That's not the case now and Alleva has a tough call to make. Personally, I think Alleva should let Miles go and not try to get in a bidding war. That is, assuming Michigan makes an offer.

Does anyone know if his contract has been extended further than December 31, 2011? That's the date Sean O'Keefe extended the contract to after the 2006 season. I'm sure they extended it another year to December 31, 2012 after the national championship. Anyone know this for a fact?

Joe Alleva was quoted yesterday as saying that Miles has 4 years remaining which would put him through 2014 season.
