what is yalls feeling on kevin sumlin if we had to replace miles after jan. 1? seems to run a high octane offense, was really hot about 1.5 years ago, but still has potential.

what say you?

F... No. Quit correlating offensive philosphy vs HC leadership, recruiting, and program management. Take a lok at what happened to his offense when Holgason went to OSU.

He lost his Heisman-contender QB, started two freshman and the offense still ranked 14th in the nation.

I wouldn't be thrilled.

Ya know, this really would NOT be a good yr for Les to leave. Who the hell would we get? Sure, you can get a coordinator, like Florida did, but they got the guy LSU probably would've gone after. Probably the same names that came up last time -- Pinkel, Grobe, would surface as candidates. I can't think of anyone right off the top of my head that would likely be a reasonable candidate to replace Miles.

who says you cant have offensive philosophy and leadership? why does every smart Xs and Os guy have to be dark room guy? hes supposed to be a pretty good recruiter and hes familiar with houston area.

Sumlin is a very good coach and likely the next in line for a big time BCS jump.

I am a Sumlin fan. He would not be at the top of my list, but he is on the list.

I don't care about his QB situation. He has an average record in a junk league, and has not shown overall distinction leading a program. Some of you fools think that a HC is about air raid play calling. How has his defenses been at Houston?

His Swagga knows no bounds. I think he will be one of the top coaches in college within the next 15 years. The guy is smart and can run an offense and inspire his team.

Put him somewhere where he could recruit defensive players and he would be great. I would rather have him than Muschamp or Pelini.

you know, i keep hearing people say shite like this and i dont get it. right now, we have a head coach who cant handle either side of the ball. ya, hes an offensive guy but the offense hes got his hands all over ranks in the 90s in the ncaa. i will admit, b/c of les miles, i would like a guy who is a stronger Xs/Os guy on one side of the ball. i know theres more to a head coach, but leadership/recruiting and football scheme are not mutually unexclusive.

take urban meyer: good head coach and good offensive mind. he didnt run the defense- he put someone who was smart and knew what they were doing in charge: charlie strong. seemed to work out fine.

yes, i want a smart offensive guy in charge for LSU. guilty. if youve read this board at all in the last week, its pretty obvious who my #1 choice is. i am intrigued by sumlin but dont know enough about him to make an informed decision. i guess i am hoping chavis stays at LSU and runs the defense for awhile. this year with halfway competent offense, were in the BCSCG, not auburn.

another reason i want my HC to be stronger on one side of the ball is b/c it makes hiring easier. les miles cant coach the offense, so he has to hire a good OC and DC. i am hoping that one day we will have a coach who just needs to hire a big time DC (hoping chavis) and hire in-title-only OC. it makes the program more stable if your coordinators arent a revolving door

Sumlin is fine by me. He lives in my neighborhood and goes to the same church. Seems like a stand up guy to me. Besides that, the guy can flat out coach and runs a clean program.
