Am i missing something? IMO this area of the team is killing us. Several breakdowns today, would have cost us the game against a better team. This area needs to upgraded.

He's right. He wasn't talking about the Bengals.

What don't you understand? Our special teams suck and against a better team, than we played today, they will cost us the game! Much like they did against the ATL. Understand?!

You're just now realizing it? This fricking clown has been killing us for 2 years now.

I agree with the OP 100%. But you can't say two years. We won the SB last year and special teams (i.e, onsides kick) played a huge part in the SB win.

Yeah if the Saints had Buehler or Cundiff on kickoffs kicking touchbacks we'd have beaten the Bengals going away this afternoon.

No, this is wrong. Special teams coverage last year was a huge liability. It carried over into the pre-season this year as well, and then continued on into the regular season.

Quite a few posters have been harping on about it since last season, it is noticeable, just today's game was so radical that literally everyone had to notice how poor this area of the team is.

If you really break it down the Saints give up over 100 yards comparatively to other teams in the coverage game. That is already 7 points right there.

We had been getting lucky in special teams though, due to our punter being a beast. If not for him, not only would the kickoff coverage, but the punt coverage would be costing usu games.

The coverage is horrible, I agree. But what really bothers me is Roby. Has he done ANYTHING this year? I can't recall him getting past the 30 in quite a while (I've miss some of the games because of church, so if I'm wrong, correct me please). But it seems like we rarely have a short field to play with. I feel we need to try someone else at KR.

That's a fact.

I've never seen 12 men on the field for a punt return in the NFL...until yesterday. Payton was some pissed!

Payton addressed the 12 men and field position in the presser yesterday. If he was man enough to let go a personal friend in Gibbs I'm thinking it will be time for change next year on ST too. With the D upgrade this year it is clearly the weakest link. That's having a pro bowl caliber punter too. It's the coverage and blocking for returns that suck badly.

It sure as hell seemed like the Bengals started every possession from their 40 yard line (including the last damn kickoff when field position was ultra crucial). Yesterday was no fluke. As other posters have said, this crap has been going on for a while.

One thing I like about Payton, he'll pull the trigger when he has to...it sure looks like he needs to get his gun ready.

Blu.

This. I do not fault Roby. He is going full speed with no dancing or neg. yards. If he can just get a small lane he's gone.

I think I read that Cincy's average starting field position was their own 43.

Bobby April was available last Jan. but the saints didn't pull the trigger. I think they should have.

Wasn't his first ST coach Bonamano, the guy Miami fired earlier this season? Payton got rid of him and hired the current ST coach.
