Relocation assistance advice

I am changing jobs and my new company is offering full relocation assistance. My wife and I are currently in a one bedroom apartment and have one car and are moving from Houston, TX to the Bay Area, CA.
They have given me two choices to pick:
1st option:
$10,000 cash (net after tax deductions)
or
2nd option:
a) A free house hunting trip (for me and my wife)
b) Move all the stuff in the apt
c) Ship the car to California
d) Flight tickets for my and my wife for the final trip from Houston to CA.
e) $500 rental car assistance if our car does not get there by the time we go to CA.
f) Misc allowance of $4000 cash which is tax deductible (I've been told I will receive about $2400 after taxes)
g) Temporary living in a furnished apt for one month in CA if we can't find a suitable house/apartment during our house hunting trip.
Which of these two options is the better choice? If it were up to you which would you pick?
I have no idea how much it will cost to hire a moving company to move our stuff and ship our car to California from Texas. Also we have to consider the cost of the house hunting trip.

depends on how much crap you have.
for a frame of reference it cost me 8k to move a three bedroom house from nola to san diego.
eta: i guess it also depends on your salary. I'm guessing that its decent in order for you to accept a transfer to (and live in) SF.
10k minus costs likely isnt worth the extreme pain in the arse of doing it yourself. not even close.

you currently have a 1 bedroom place. take the 10k, hire some kids to move your stuff into a uhaul, drive said uhaul with your car in tow to cali, pay some more kids to move your stuff from uhaul to new apt.

just costs from the moving truck and house hunting trip will likely top 5k.

I agree with this, if you're like me and dont have much to move I would do it myself. Im sure you can get some family and/or friends to help you

I have a 1 bedroom apartment with very basic stuff - one couch, one flat screen TV, one bed, one clothes cabinet, one study table + chair, one coffee table, kitchen ware, clothes and shoes. That's about it. I think all of it should fit in a standard size U-haul truck.

Dude you wouldn't even fill up a trailer. Do it yourself and pocket probably $7 grand.

Do it yourself and save the cash for the arse rape you are about to experience in housing cost.

Take the first option. Do the work yourself or like the other guy said, pay some kid a few hundred bucks.

10,000.
or:
4,000
payment
1,000
two flights for house hunting trip
2,500 (roughly)
furnished apt for a month
1,250
uhaul rental
$500 gasd
$150 hotels on the road
Seems like option #2 is a no brainer for me. The added stress of doing it yourself doesnt even come close to the money you'll be "saving"

I took the opposite trip (SV-NO) last year with exactly that much stuff. My expenses didn't come near to $10K. Take the money and run.
