For some reason, this show really irks me. My roommates all seem to like it a lot, but i just can't like it for some reason...I just don't think its very funny. What is the general consensus on this show?

The characters just aren't good or funny characters to me. I just think they're all kind of annoying. I just feel like its not even half as funny as say, family guy is.

I'm not gonna insult you for having that opinion but I will say that I disagree w/ it on the same level that I would disagree w/ an opinion that eating sheep shite is delicious.

I agree, Futurama is average at best. Family Guy is awesome, like when they play a Conway Twitty song for 4 minutes of a 22 minute episode or every time they have Peter sing Bird is the Word. Family Guy is fricking hysterical compared to Futurama.

There's comedy appealing to the lowest common denominator (Family Guy)
and then there is well thought out, good comedy (Futurama) that doesn't cater to those types.

Futurama makes countless references to new discoveries, theories and experiments and makes them funny as hell. It's a great show.
I'm not going to tell you I hate Family Guy, because I don't but it isn't a great show. Seth is not that funny and the only reason he does that Conway Twitty shite is because he runs out of material. It ruins the show. Along with only making fun of republicans every other show.

The dialogue between the characters on futurama is really greatness. It's not really like a family guy that just throws joke after joke at you in hopes that something sticks.

Futurama also has some pretty great episodes as far as the story every now and then. Not what you look for in an animated comedy necessarily but it's nice to see here and there.

This is it. The humor in Futurama doesn't work for everyone and that's just it...you either fit their target audience, or you don't.

I think what I'm doing is I'm trying to watch it like a typical animated comedy like family guy or south park. There have been multiple responses about it being a different type of comedy so I guess I'll try to watch it in a more "content-oriented" way.
And as far as characters go, Stewie is probably the best cartoon character on television, and thats always been the case. I don't see a character anywhere close to that on Futurama.

The evil matricidal version of Stewie from the early seasons was one of the best characters on TV. Weird homo Stewie from the newer seasons--not so much.
As far as Futurama having awesome characters-Bender, Zoidberg, and The Professor are some of the greatest characters in TV history.
