Does Rutgers have any responsibility in the caretaking of the player long term? What part does the university play in this?

Kent Waldrep was a TCU player that was paralyzed while playing against Alabama. Coach Bryant visited him in the hospital and stayed close wit him while Bryant was still alive. He use to come to our games in his wheelchair and Alabama basically adpted him as one of our own.

In 2005 his son was awarded the Bryant scholarship nd allowed to attend the University of Alabama for free. His son and now daughter ar the only children of a player ever allowed to attend Alabama on the Bryant Scholarship that their father didn't actually play for Alabama.

It is a great story.

when you play ncaa sports, you are covered for injury during the game and health care related to sports injury.

like all coverage it has limits. rutgers will most likely chip in.

Ole Miss really took care of Chucky Mullins. But I don't know how much long term responsibility the University assumes.

As the father of a former NCAA athlete, there is insurance that covers. It has a high lifetime benefit and most universities cover the deductible. My kid had a knee injury. The university and the insurance took care of everything. Granted, nowhere near the injury of that poor kid from Rutgers, but it should not be any different.

The saddest, scariest and freakiest thing about that video - which I can't watch again - is seeing his head moving up, like he's trying to get up but can't.
