I remember reading an article several years ago about a college which was in the throes of the nation's longest losing streak. It did not appear that the team would win any games during the season of the article. I paraphrase what the president of that college said in the article: "It hurts to lose because the football team is seen as the warriors of a tribe who are sent out to do battle; but, ours always lose to the warriors of the other tribe."

I suspect that this translates to many of us. We see LSU as the fighting force for our state. When the Tigers don't do well, or - God forbid - lose, we feel that the rest of the nation, lo world, is snickering at our weakness.

But, I submit that this is utterly ridiculous. No one's happiness should depend on whether LSU wins convincingly. It's a dang ball game, folks! Don't give yourselves aneurisms over it! Who cares if someone from another SEC school giggles at us? Inevitably, it will all turn around on them.

I'd like the Tigers to win every game and always in a convincing fashion, but I don't think that it's worth attacking coaches and players about it. Changes will be made in due course, whether I have anything to say about it or not (and, whether you say anything or not).

I am convinced that if this Tiger team were to go 12-0, there would still be quite a few people on this board complaining about something wrong. I'm afraid that some of these people might commit suicide if the Tigers only go 8-4.

You must not work with people from Alabama on a regular basis.
