Poor attendance anticipated at home opener?

I spoke with family and friends in Baton Rouge and they tell me as many as 50% of the ticket holders they know are not planning on attending the first game of the 2010 season in Tiger Stadium.
If these predicitons are true, I am amazed that the LSU fanbase has become this fickle. Truly sad and depressing.
Certainly the fans have some legitimate concerns and may honestly see 3, 4, 5, or more losses in the 2010 season. But have some of us become those type of fans?
I have shed tears in grief over a loss as a young child as my dad led my past the indian mounds to the truck. Only a few years later I remember sitting on his shoulders and watching the band march down the hill and later that night high fiving strangers in celebration of a big win. I fondly remeber the feeling of being a part of a huge family as we tailgated in years following. In my teens I sat under a poncho with my date in a down pour until the last play of game we were losing by 21. I have driven into the belly of a hurricane to sit in that concrete bowl of intimidation becasue it was the only game I could be at that year. And I still get goosebumps when I hear those 4 sacred notes on game day regardless of my location.
How in the hell can any true fan decide to not go to the home opener at Tiger Stadium when they already have tickets regardless of the current team outlook much less when the team is 2-0?

P.S. LSU fans go to home games for the tailgating, not the actual game

I would say their sample size is extremely small...

Was this the reason they're not going?

definitely false... i cant see that happening when we are 2-0 with a decent defense

That is absurd & you are an idiot for believing it

Even the crappy OOC games in the middle of the season have around 85,000 in the first quarter. And we're talking about the home opener/gold game. I'd be pretty shocked if attendance is any lower than recent years.
Not to mention, when is the last time we as a home crowd have been able to get behind a dominant nasty defense? That's prob one of the biggest things I'm looking forward to this Saturday night.

They probably don't know that many season ticket holders. I mean if they know 40 season ticket holders then that means 20 people they know aren't going.
That's not really something to fret over. Let me add in that 100% of the season ticket holders I know are going. That averages out to be at least %75 of the season ticket holders sampled are going.

All my friends, season ticket holders, will be there. Everyone is excited for the home opener. Should be a good turnout.

the friends and family you have in BR are stupid and not a worthy example of true LSU fans.
DV will be rocking sat night.

Based off of tickets selling on stub hub for less than face value I am not so sure it is absurd, but the comments her are reassuring.
