What if anything needs to be done in terms of paperwork when buying a rifle from an individual seller? If one is buying a gun from a store they have to submit to a background check, how is this done when buying a used gun? TIA

its not necessary when buying a gun from a non FFL individual. a bill of sale and maybe a DL number is a good idea however in the event the cops come knocking one day.

Legally, you dont need anything.

You can do whatever you want though, serial numbers of individual weapons arent tied to whoever purchases the gun. There is no spot on a 4473 for make, model, or serial number.
