Setting aside opinions on Les and whether they are appropriate or not, Is there a precedent for a major college head coach reversing negative perceptions about his ability?
Football programs do so, but often only after one or more coaching changes.
I can't think of a single one...

Mack Brown didn't have a win/loss problem, he had an Oklahoma problem.

Don't get tied into the idea that the Tiger Rant opinions are held by the rest of the community.

Dont get me wrong, are there a lot of LSU fans that are not Les Miles fans? Sure, but most of the LSU fans that dislike Miles have only been following LSU since they started winning. If he wins this year, the sentiment will be turned. Like the old saying goes, winning cures everything.

Joe pa turned around the national media.

Dave Wandstache was also pretty close to bring run out of pitt as well.

Its differend in the SEC. Were a lot more impatient and irrational when it comes to this.

Personally, I think Miles needs to take a page from his book and hire the kind of staff Brown has. He's begun to do so with BG, so we'll see.

Not fair, he had over 75 years to do this.

Not a bad question. Mack Brown certainly comes to mind. Gene Chizik is the in process of doing it but next season will really tell. Saban wasn't exactly Mr popular after we lost to UAB in 2000. But if Miles does do it, I think it would be the prime example of this situation.

Beamer's a great call. They were reading to can the King of the Chokies early in his career, and suddenly the light went on.

I said Mack Brown because he was trying to shed the "has never won a conference title" tag until Vince Young came along. I don't think a lot of the criticisms of Brown were fair, but they certainly existed. In fact, Brown and Miles are EXTREMELY similar coaches in style and personality. They both have the rep of only being as good as their assistants.

Yeah, but he did it in the last 10 years.... In current times. If anyone is trying to say that it can't be done, there's evidence to disprove that theory.

You can win over your fans and the national media again. It isn't easy, but it can be done.

Most of the USC fan base and media were questioning the sanity of Garret for hiring Pete Carroll. In less than three years he was the USC fan base and media darling. Mack is a great example also. A lot of Longhorns wanted him out early in the decade because he couldn't beat "Big Game Bob".

A lot of times it takes the new coach to show that the old coach wasn't that bad after all.
