...and I really wish "fans" would stop bitching about how undersized our defensive line is.

quote:

Levingston, who stands 6-foot-4 and said he weighed 290 pounds, started at defensive end last season, recording 28 tackles. With the compact, 6-foot-1, 296-pound Nevis starting next to a converted defensive end, there have been questions about whether LSU has enough size at tackle to withstand the pounding of SEC offensive lines.

“But what’s the average NFL defensive tackle?,” Levingston asked. “About 290. And I’m weighing 290. We’re plenty big enough.”

If they aren’t, they get big enough when the 6-foot-6, 300-pound Brockers comes off thebench. Like Levingston, Brockers is a converted defensive end who comes in with much hype from LSU coaches.

We got pushed around last year (see the Miss. State game for example). We couldn't get off the field at times. It is a a legitimate concern.

I don't believe we were 9 or 10 (minimum this year) deep last year also. Fresh legs will always be on the field this year on the D-Line.

There are reports coming out of practice that there is NO drop off in production, talent, etc...when there are substitutions on the defense.

We got pushed around on both sides of the ball all last season. In fact, "getting pushed around" was the main theme of of the 2009 season—not JJ sacks or questionable play calling or poor clock management or anything else. I know jack shite about the finer points of football, but even I know what my eyes tell me: if we're going to improve in 2010, WE have to be the ones doing the pushing, at least on one side of the line, preferably on both.

No matter what else happens in 2010, I hope to see a lot less of what I witnessed in 2009—Tiger o- and d-linemen getting manhandled by their opposites. That's my #1 hope and wish for this upcoming season.

+1

our Ends are going to be our strength...i hope we can keep rotating those tackles to keep them fresh...i do worry a little about size...but if our strength and speed are good we should be fine...
