All of them have run players off their team, and out of school, because the players were guilty of, well, nothing. The players were academically sound. They were solid citizens. But they were the odd man out after their coach -- Miles or Saban, Nutt or Shannon -- signed too many players and had to go all grim reaper on someone.
At LSU, Les Miles went grim reaper this year on three different someones -- none more appallingly than Elliott Porter. Porter is a freshman offensive lineman from Waggaman, La., who signed with LSU in February, qualified academically, reported to summer school in June and started taking classes. After two months as a member of the LSU football family, Porter was summoned last week from his dorm room to Les Miles' office to hear that he wasn't part of the family anymore. Sorry, son. You're out. The NCAA allows a team to add 25 scholarship freshmen, and LSU had gone over that limit. Someone had to go, and that someone was Elliott Porter.
Miles is getting good at this. In March, when he first started to suspect that he had signed too many players -- he intentionally went over the 25-signee limit, assuming several would fail to qualify -- Miles took away the scholarship of linebacker Houston Bates, who went to Illinois. Last month, still needing to whittle down to get his overall roster to the NCAA-allowed maximum of 85 scholarship players, Miles cut redshirt freshman quarterback Chris Garrett. That slash of his scythe was especially galling, seeing how one year earlier Miles had talked Garrett out of his oral commitment to Mississippi State. Last week Garrett, after being screwed out of two SEC schools by Les Miles, transferred to Northwestern State. I don't know what NCAA division that school is in. Not even sure what state it's in.
Another rantard. Nothing to see here.

Miles also revoked the scholarship of Storm Johnson after Spencer Ware decided at the last minute not to play pro baseball. Johnson signed with Miami, not sure if it is the Ohio one or the Florida one.

Some people need to understand that CFB is a business..big business..calling these coaches "Bad guys" is poor journalism.
No scholarship renewal is guaranteed. This clown doesn't know what the coaches told Garrett ...Garrett asked for a transfer/release for goodness sakes, not cut!
In General, one would assume that if you are in the 3 deep, you understand your scholarship may be revoked the following season. You may get replaced by a better player who has a chance of contributing, it's about getting the best players to compete, not be nice guy with free money(education)

Its all true.
bullshite and you know it. Asking someone to delay their scholarship is nowhere near the same thing as yanking it altogether. You might still think it's shitty, but have the balls to be intellectually honest at least once regarding Miles. There are plenty of legitimate things to criticize him over, no need to lie.

I know there are different needs at each recruited position, but does this mean he was the lowest thought of recruit that was expendable?
What is the final decision maker? Who can afford it on their own money? Who do you really not think is that good and might leave? Who loves LSU so much they will agree to anything and stay? Who is too poor to ask to do that?
I sure would like Miles to tell us what his deciding factor was.

Honestly, they should just bitch about the system. Les, while I think shady here, did what the system allows him. No recourse for the kid. The NCAA should simply set a fixed # of LOI that can be accepted at 25 and be done with it.
Allowing over-signing is nice and all for getting kids that half-arse their way through highschool, but how about you let these kids realize that there are consequences for fricking around for 3 years of high school and force ALL coaches to give scholarships to kids that prove themselves to have potential on and off the field.

I thought Chris Garret left bc he was 3rd string?
Did Les pull his scholly? seems like an odd place to pull somebodies scholly?

Well if Les Signed 25, and 5 didn't qualify, while an important position like QB was part of the fallout or whatever..the fans would be saying Miles was stupid because he didn't anticipate that happening.
How can any coach know 100% who is going to qualify, mess up, fail etc??? I mean really? How can they do it 100%? They can't. The goal is to capture the best players.
IMHO, it's wise to over-sign 2 or 3 a year. Think about it, many times the biggest fish that want to "announce" on signing day...it's a very difficult situation when they wait that long, and so many are declaring last minture, changing their minds etc..
I say smart guy, not "Bad guy"...

Les told him he would NOT be seeing the feild anytime soon, and Garrett turn around and said, "If that is the case, can I be released, coach?"
Good guy Miles, let him go..
