*Reveal TUESDAY!!!* - Top 100 Movies: 2000's Edition

When Mr. Bilbo Baggins of Bag End announced.....
Wrong decade, sort of. Welcome back to your randomly scheduled list-making extravaganza!! Have you wanted to see how your fellow board members rank possibly the greatest movie of our generation: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull? Or how much respect the very underrated Uwe Bolle gets? Fear not! After our normal voting procedures, we will see that Bloodrayne AND In the Name of the King have better action sequences than Batman Begins, and that our aforementioned fedora-ed Hero is, to our surprise, in a movie that is better than City of God. Drugs? Innocence? Children in the slums of Brazil? Puhh-lease. Swinging monkeys, flesh eating ants and bad green-screening are way better. You take your competent and emotional storyline out of here Mr. Meirielles!
The 2000's were a troubled generation, sometimes filled with brilliance, the emergence of the post-Matrix media environment, and some of the best foreign films to come out in years. At the same time, the comedic form of parody was almost ruined, directors began to rely more on cheap tricks like 3-D, and remakes took the world by storm. We saw the emergence of Pixar onto the artistic scene, comic books as a viable foundational medium for transition, and directors like Christopher Nolan who took serious chances and challenged the audience. AND WE FINALLY SAW AN INDIANA JONES SEQUEL!! Too bad it was awful. To alleviate our memories, we did finally get one of the greatest stories ever told on screen with the Lord of the Rings. Finally, something to challenge Star Wars, something for our generation. Something certifiably great. So, how will the decade be remembered? Well, first let's find 50 Movies We Agree Don't Suck, and we'll take it from there.
Without delay, and so that we can quickly unleash the love for the underrated epic, Disaster Movie, let's get down to the rules, as normal:
Ballots will be posted in this thread as a response. Please label your films 1-20, with 1 being the highest, 2 next and so forth (doesn't matter how you list them, forwards or backwards, but make sure 1 is your top film). I will let the thread sink in for a few days, then I will lock in answers with an announcement (as in, "NO FURTHER CHANGES FROM NOW ON) I will bump this thread daily until the first list is posted, I'm sure it will take a couple of days to start getting lists in. VOTES ARE DUE IN APPROX. 2 WEEKS, will gauge interest as the thread progresses and extend/cut if necessary.*
ONLY FILMS RELEASED BETWEEN JANUARY 1, 2000 and DECEMBER 31, 2009 will be considered. ALL OTHER FILMS ARE UNQUALIFIED.**
I am also taking names for possible writers. If you would like to write a small piece on a movie in the top 10, please respond in this thread.
WRITERS:
Freauxzen
Baloo
Beastwood
THRILLHO
iwyLSUiwy
Leauxgan
Dangling Fury
Have at it folks.***
*Footnote - Do you love The Hangover? Well, we don't like your kind around here. No seriously, that's not a joke. It made it on to the 50 Comedies We Agree Don't Suck List, isn't that enough? Just kidding.
** Also - I know technically the decade is 2001-2010, and I wanted to do it that way, but votes went against that. It is what it is.

I'm no fan of lists but this could be a nice change of pace

I don't mind lists I just hate having to rank movies. Rating them is one thing ranking them is another. But I guess it's par the course.

I agree. But I have no idea how else to do that mathematically. And account for the randomness. That's basically setting up an IMDB like system here. Impossible.

***Second Breakfast - LOST IS NOT A MOVIE. IT IS NOT A CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE. WE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU REALLY LIKE THE SHOW, BUT THERE IS NO REASON TO TALK ABOUT IT HERE. WE ALSO KNOW THAT LOST > MARTIN SCORCESE. WE GET THAT TOO. IT ALSO HAS AWESOME SAND, AND AWESOME LIGHTING. AND WE KNOW THAT LOST'S BEST BOY GRIPS ARE BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE'S. EVER. THEY ARE MORE INVENTIVE AND INNOVATIVE. THEIR TECHNIQUES ARE LIGHTYEARS BEYOND THAT OF OTHER GRIPS. SO PLEASE, LET'S NOT TALK ABOUT IT.
Well, as long as you are willing to admit that....lets move on
nice second breakfast use

Actually I think this is more of what I meant. It's just takes a lot of effort to rank properly and I always fell like something important is left out. But I digress, looking forward to the final verdict

Are we allowed to edit our lists up to the cutoff? I know I'm gonna forget something or go back and feel the need to swap something around.

Yes.

Thanks for spearheading this effort Freaux. I can't really contribute, but I do like looking over everyone else's lists. This should be fun.

I'm waiting for someone to post their list first...

Just doing some refreshing by looking at Roeper's best of the decade list so I don't forget any movies, and I am shocked at the number of really good movies made this decade. It's gonna be really hard for anyone to get a list down to 20.

Yeah, just not great ones that I can think of that should be ranked high. Do you know of a site that lists the greatest movies of the decade, and I can see/rank the ones I've seen off of it? Would IMDB have something like that?

Just Google: "best Movies of the Decade" or "Best movies of 2000s" that will get you some lists.
