I don't want to turn this in to the poli board but thought this should be posted here anyway. If admins want to move it over there go right ahead. But....

WTF?? I thought BP was supposed to pay for the cleanup? Now you want to pass the cost of a foreign company screw up the the American people? Because you know that is exactly where the tax increase is going and who is going to pay for it in the end. This shite just gets more stupid every day and just when I think a more stupid move can be made I click another link.

LINK

WASHINGTON -- Congress is getting ready to quadruple -- to 32 cents a barrel -- a tax on oil used to help finance cleanups. The increase would raise nearly $11 billion over the next decade.

The tax is levied on oil produced in the U.S. or imported from foreign countries. The revenue goes to a fund managed by the Coast Guard to help pay to clean up spills in waterways, such as the Gulf of Mexico.

New taxes of any kind will be welcomed in Washington. You can bet your arse the revenues WONT just be used for oil spills.

11 billion bucks to these idiots is a drop in the bucket. Look at the current deficit each year.
I do think they are taking advantage of a bad situation. LA will never see a cent of this money. Feds aint done nothing for us.

Time out.........

Wasn't there already such a fund, maybe not by the feds but the industry? These bastards never miss a trick and chance to raise taxes. Because of one giant accident (maybe negligence on BPs part) now we all have to suffer?

Though maybe they're on track, perhaps it can be enacted so that residents of non-oil producing states get hit with it, and not us, since we assume all the risk and get the shite end of the stick anyway.

The way congress sees it:
If they raise X about of money in new taxes then they have 10X more money to waste on getting themselves reelected.

the new tax won't be on citizens, but on oil companies

At this point, don you really care ? If we could have a pristine coast, I would pay $5 gallon.

Thats the problem though. We wont have a pristine coast. The politicians will just waste the money.

This country cant run at 5$ a gallon. It would shut down. You may be able to pay it but most of the rest of the country cant, may want to think about that. And yes all the oil companies will do is pass it on just like every other industry does when it takes a tax increase.

It's pretty sad that government profits more on a gallon of gas than the oil companies when you consider the taxes on the downstream and retail side.

Well Einstein I really don't know. But since you know seem to know everything, why aren't you leading the BP team to stop the disaster?
