Sports misery is usually defined as a matter of years of losing records or long championship droughts: the Chicago Cubs going over a century without a World Series title, or the New Orleans Saints turning in losing seasons almost every year over four decades (the Saints busted their city's misery in a big way with this year's Super Bowl win, of course).

I'd have to put Atlanta pretty high on the list. No NBA championships, only one World Series win since 1957, and no Super Bowl victories. In their ten years of having an NHL team, they've only made the postseason once, where they failed to win a single playoff game.

But what's worse is the fan apathy. At the height of the Braves' success in the 90s, they still couldn't sell out their stadium- even during the playoffs. They're the worse fair weather fans in the country.

Ok that last sentence pi$$es me off !!!! They don't know what the hell they are talking about.
The Saints have an OVER .500 record in their last 23 years, not to mention 7 playoff appearances, and are 4-2 in the playoffs since 2006, NOT "losing records almost every year."
Freaking anal orificies

Can you really call them "fair weather fans" if they don't even show up during the good times?

I think part of Atlanta's problem is the sheer number of people coming from other places. They grew up loving OTHER teams and they're not about to switch just because they moved to Atlanta.

Yeah, you're probably right. There's a pretty good article that touches on some of the topics you raise.

Add Miami and Los Angeles to that list. I'd rather put up with an obnoxious Philly fan than deal with some bandwagon hopping yuppie.
