Osaka Buffet in Baton Rouge - Japanese & Chinese

Had the opportunity to try out the buffet, and was fairly underwhelmed. The Buffet is an expansion of Super Buffet that Pancho's moved into, with sushi incorporated into their offerings.

This doesn't warrant a colorful review, so here's the quick and dirty version. They offer a variety of hot items, including beef & chicken teriyaki, steak rolls, tempura shrimp, gyoza dumplings, spare ribs, baked salmon, lo mein, fried rice. There's also oysters, cocktail shrimp, snow crab legs. They have a fruit and dessert bar, an ice cream parlor (with green tea ice cream), as well as a salad and appetizer bar.

As far as the sushi and sashimi, the good news is that there are dozens of items to choose from. Anything that you could possibly want is on the sushi buffet. The downside is that the sushi chefs completely ignore the the labels identifying the sushi and sashimi. None of the labels on the glass guard correspond with the item underneath it, the entire time the sushi chef had to explain to people what each roll was.

There was only one fried roll on the buffet, and the sushi chef oddly had no clue what was inside of it. I think I'll call this one "Mystery Miyagi."

The rolls were sub-par, not worse than those at King Buffet or Great Wall, but no better than those at Nagoya (aka Sushi Corral). With a drink, the lunch buffet comes out to $13.50 with tax. A lunch buffet and drink at King Buffet (with similarly sub-par sushi but better hot food) will run you $8.25.

Feel free to try this place once and see if you think any better of it. I thought Osaka was slightly below average, I have no intention of going back a second time.
