What's the status of Harper's contract...I've been scouring the internet trying to find if we've inked him long term, but I think that's still in negotiation mode.

Question is....if you're GM, do you ink Harper to something long term, or keep the length of the contract smaller?

Depends on what he's asking for and depends if a team is willing to trade for him giving us value back as well as depends on what they see in players like Chip Vaughn.

It really depends for me.

He is a RFA right now and hasn't signed a contract. He would have been URFA had there been a CBA this year.

My though on Harper is this: He is flawed in that he is weak in coverage, but he does play in the box quite well and isn't half bad on blitzes.

To further complicate the matter, he did have unquestionably his finest season under GW last year

So in summary I wouldn't mind a 3-4 year deal for a reasonable price, which should be doable since he's hardly a pro bowler or anything

I would have a hard time escalating too much for Harper. I could see the RFA deal riding and see what Vaughn has in the course of the season. If good then hold the line and say sayonara if need be. If not so good then up the ante a little.

Good memory. He was an alternate last year and I totally forgot.

IMO Harper is, at his worst, still a solid safety. I'd like him to be a Saint for a long time, but I would trust the FO to do the best thing for the organization with him, whether it would be letting him go or hooking him up.

You do realize that having "trust" in the front office is a no-no around these parts.

We, as internet geniuses, know all there is to know aboot football, and the day to day operations there in.

lets see here

Sharper - is 34 yrs old and still unsigned
Usama - has zero experience at Safety
Prioleau - special teamer/aged backup
Reis - special teamer with limited experience
Vaughn - virtually a rookie
Jenkins - possibly could make an impact right away at safety.

with that said. we go ahead and lock up Harper long term IMO.
