I moved to Texas last September, but I still own a house in Louisiana.

My question is, do I need to state all my income from my job in Texas for the last three months of the year on my Louisiana State Income Taxes since I still own a house in LA (this is what an accountant in Texas told me I needed to do)?

Or do I just need to add my first check (didn't have an address up here yet, so first check got LA State Income Taxes taken out) to my income made at my previous employer for the state income taxes and be done with it?

For 2009 you are considered a part-year resident of Louisiana. You fill out a return that reports all of your income but separates it into Louisiana and non-Louisiana income. You pay Louisiana income tax on the portion attributable to Louisiana.

For 2010 you will be a Louisiana non-resident. You will only have to file a Louisiana income tax return if you have income from a source within Louisiana, such as rental income from the house you own. You don't have to file a Louisiana income tax return if you sell the house and you do not have any capital gain to report.

there is typically some particular date that your company stopped witholding La taxes and started witholding TX taxes....your W-2 will likely break out your income that way between the states too....

unless there is some major difference, I would personally just go with whatever is allocated to each state on the W-2, as it is a pain in the arse to get all of that changed....

IMO, there is never a better time to pay someone else to do your taxes than when you have part-year incomes....

There are no state income taxes in Texas.

My first check had LA taxes taken out because I didn't have a Texas residence when I filled out my paperwork. I resolved that before my second check. It should be a pretty simple filing since everything is broken out.
