With all of the focus on the in-state talent at DL, OL, WR and RB, I am just now realizing the shortage of DB's and the lack of early offers. This is usually a position of depth in LA. If Scout is correct, we have:

6 offers at CB. Of which, 5 are out of state (if you assume Beckham is a CB). 3 of those 6 are committed to other schools.

6 offers at S. Of which, 5 are out of state.

Are we waiting for camp season? You could say pretty much the same for LB for that matter.

Thoughts?

There is a guy who transfered from GA, he is a relative of a former LSU corner. He is at Carencro HS and said to be blazing fast. His name is Anthony Zenon, . . . He's about 5'11-6' tall and about 180 lbs. Perhaps he'll attend the LSU camp.

2011 DB Shortage

Recruits yes. Players no.

Craig Loston S So.
Sam Gibson S Fr
Ronnie Vinson CB RSFr.
Drayton Calhoun CB So.
Brandon Taylor CB Sr.
Ron Brooks CB Sr.
Eric Reid S RSFr.
Karnell Hatcher S Sr.
Tyrann Mathieu CB RSFr.
Ryan St. Julien CB Jr.
Derrick Bryant DB Sr.
Morris Claiborne DB/WR So.

I'm ok with this is we sign one or two CB's and a Safety if there are better one's to be signed in 2012. I think DL, WR and LB are the key areas this year IMO.

If Odel is listed at CB, then I want two CBs this year and that is it.

Jabriel Washington being the other one, who in my opinion, is the #1 must get out-of-state player in this class.

i think there are some guys we are still evaluating.

darren kitchen from houma has offers from nebraska and stanford-if pelini wants him then i think he is pretty good

renaldo thomas from st. aug is probably out top in-state safety, with wilson recruiting him i think he is ours if we want him bad enough

TK fleming has offers from alot of bcs schools and i think wants to come here and do track as well, looks good and athletic

Beckham is probably our top in state corner and i feel good about him

levander liggins and devante scott as well as ryan byrd are athletes would may play corner, not sure how we feel about those them. scott is a moo state commit, byrd has offers from ole miss n minnesota, liggins has lots of interest

Kitchen, probably so.

But with the limited number of schollys, the amount of depth we have already, and the over-abundance of good DL, OL, RB, and WRs , I think two or three CBs and S will be the most LSU would take.

Our Safety and CB class haul last year was pretty amazing.

I agree, that he should be the number one out of state prospect for us to get other than the DE Clowney a freak of nature.

I think you hit it dead on:
Safeties:
1.Thomas
2.Fleming--if grades are in order

CB:
1.Beckham
2.Out-of-state

I think going after Clowney would be a waste of time and man power. You might as well put a full court press on Jalen Grimble, because they have just as good as a chance with him.

I don't see it being a waste going after someone(Clowney) if he grew up and still is a huge fan of LSU football. I mean to be honest we have just a good of shot at him as Rasco.

I can't disagree more. (no offense)

I think if we want Thomas, he's ours for sure.

Fleming too. And both are two-sports. Which can be good and can be bad.

I agree Washington should be top out of state (with clowney)

Decent enough to get into the NFL. I'm not sure if he still plays.

No way! Full court press on Clowney and seal the deal.

There's no way recruiting Clowney would be a waste of time. I suppose recruiting Ego and Montgomery would have been a waste of time to you guys too?

I guess I didn't realize that he was that much of a chance to sign. Also did not know that he is and grew up an LSU fan. If true, by all means throw whatever you have at him.

Ego and Montgomery I velieve were somewhat different. Both were big time recruits, but neither was the best of their position. Aside from Peterson, when was the last time LSU signed a player that was number one in the country on defense out-of-state. These players, usually, get swayed to other colleges. Not saying recruiting him would be a mistake, but the man hours could be better spent on someone who is in your own state, Rasco.

Not saying it could never happen, but the odds always seem to be against LSU on this. Hell, why is it that LSU NEVER gets that amazing, can't miss, number 1 LB?

If the kid is a fan, bum-rush him with guys to get him. If not, try to lock down Rasco first.
