Cracker Custard - Local Dish?

Grandma's and my Mom were always cooking cracker custard desert [made with saltines]. Is this a local dish or cooked elsewhere? i loved it cold from the ice box, but very rich. Man, simple dish from simple times...

never heard of "cracker custard", but, custard, buttermilk, and chess pie are my favorites.. Got any kind of recipe, w/crackers...??
