Les Miles Summer Camp

Son got an invite through his coach at school yesterday. Is this worth the price tag? How much attention can one kid out of 400 get from a dozen or so staffers?

If he wants an offer at a D1 level school, I would think you would have to go to as many camps as possible. Not only to get noticed, but to pick up as many tips and techniques as possible.

most of those summer camps are a money maker for the coach. Probably not so much for Les but other sports, the coaches make more off their camps then they do in salary. I would send my kid for sure (if he wanted to go).

He's gone to the lineman camps (he's a DE) in his frosh and soph years and they pretty much run the same drills he runs at school. If he wants to go I'll send him. I just wanted to know if this was anthing different from the norm.

i went just for the experience along with some team mates back when i was in high school... if your son is good enough he will be spotted by one of the coaches... each position coach trains their position and miles kinda just overseas it all... so really you dont have to just worry about miles himself seeing him... because the position cuaches give report what they see back to him

Only go if you are a legit recruit. If not you do not get much attention, it is just too big

My freind went to FSU camp a few years ago. 800 kids at $400 a piece.
But a kid can get noticed at camps. But he has to hustle. Keep lining up and wanting another turn in the drill.

I went to a couple of camps. If it's a week long camp, and he gets to stay in a dorm then it's worth it. I wouldn't worry to much about attention or getting noticed. I went to the TAMU camp and it was football sleep eat. It was was more intense then my normal hour and half daily workout, and did a lot of good. I would say it's worth the money to get in football shape a month early.

It also helps break the summer up a bit between 7-on-7 and summer weight and speed training

Talk to your HS coach. Find out how the invitation came. Ask your HS coach if he thinks its worth the time and $, however remember you dont have to go to the full 6 secessions...you can attend and pay only for the ones you attend..If your HS coach thinks your son has the ability to play in college, then yes by all means attend as many camps as you can! but attend the ones you really have a chance of being recruited by, major, mid major, d-II or d-III...Good luck and have fun

He brings in High school coaches too. The get separated by age and most importantly "talent". I worked with the RB's and then with Sophomores. I got to work with the horses during the morning which was cool. If your son is legit he'll get plenty of work. If he is a good high school player he will get solid coaching. It will be up to him to push it and work to get better.

All these camps are for is money making for coaches, loving up on the schools top prospects, and also a under the radar guy making a name for himself. At an LSU camp last year the kid from ST. Aug, Mathieu, I think that is how you spell it got noticed and got a schollie. They already knew about him, but in the camp he stood out and got an offer. So unless your son is that type of kid it really is not worth it.

Or as was the case with Skip, a money maker for the AD.
