ESPN's Adam Scheffter is reporting that the Saints may place their Franchise Tag on Sharper. The price tag would be $6.45 million, which is reasonable for one season and probably similar to the raise that Sharper may get on the open market. Sharper is already talking about repeating, so he could settle for a lesser contract to allow the Saints dollars to go further towards to unrestricted free agents or the draft.

I would not think that the Saints would need to do this...Pierre Thomas is the one that I would franchise.

No way.....wouldn't you have to pay Thomas like a top 5 back if that were the case?

The franchise tag was installed for players like Sharper. PT is far from being considered.

Why would you franchise someone when they are RFA??? Do you know how that works?

I like PT a lot, but if someone is willing to give up a 1 and a 3 for him, I'm all for it.

PFT links to a Len Pasquerelli Insider article saying the Saints WON'T franchise Sharper. Maybe someone with access can shed some light on it.

Florio did summarize it beautifully...

Saints will franchise Sharper, unless they don't

First he would the top 5 RB salary in the NFL not the NFC so bad comparison to start.

Second just for arguments sake

1) Adrian Peterson
2) Steven Jackson
3) Deangelo Williams
4) Frank Gore
5) Marion Barber

And I would probably put Johnathan Stewart ahead of PT too.

Adam Schefter normally batts around .157 in his offseason predictions.

I agree with him, Pierre, IMO, is definitely in the talks as a top 5 back in the league... His receiving ability makes up for anything he lacks as a runner... The only person I'd say is better than him as a receiving back is Chester Taylor
