By then the Superdome will be a little over 50 years old. I'm sure there will be talk of a new stadium. Where do we build it and which current stadium should it resemble? IMO, it should not be built in downtown NOLA. Maybe towards Laplace or anywhere it is more wide open, like LSU (better tailgating atmosphere than sitting underneath overpasses tailgating).

Wow, what a great argument and discussion Tittle.

I like the idea. How big is the tailgating action for a Saints game?

No no no.
Should tear down the Iberville projects and build it there.

Seems like your name fits you...

DOWNTOWN!! Having the superdome so close to downtown is what makes the game day experience GREAT and is what the NFL likes about hosting SBs in NOLA!

The stadium has to be near the cbd. This is part of the lure for big money events. Outside the cbd makes the stadium no different than any other nfl city/stadium.

Or a location near by, if and when they ever want/need to move. I think they can stay longer than 15 more years there, though.

Proximity to the French Quarter, hotels and everything else easily trumps any benefits from tailgating for a suburban locale stadium. Those things are by and large fricking lame (see, e.g. Miami).

Well, there were discussions of having it near the convention center, right?

main reason why the media loves the events here. It'll be tough to top that location. I have no idea where they'd do it.

Moving the stadium away from downtown would be a horrible idea.

I like tailgating, but that's more of a college thing to me. For the Saints, go out and do stuff downtown. There's plenty to do.

The reason the city hosts things like Super Bowls, the Sugar Bowl, Final Fours, BCSNCGs, and so forth is because our stadium is so close to downtown and the French Quarter. There's no way the city makes everyone pay for a taxi to get downtown just so Saints fans can try out tailgating. It would also seriously damage the economy downtown, not to mention endorse harmful sprawl.

Being able to walk to the Quarter after a game beats being able to tailgate at 9:00 am in a parking lot in Laplace any day of the week.

Taking the stadium away from the downtown would suck. Theres not too many places where you can walk from your hotel room to the stadium, not to mention having the FQ along with the restaurants.

If NOLA wanted to screw up their position as one of the best places to watch a sporting event, they would move the stadium away from the tourist attractions, restaurants, shops, bars and hotels. If anything, they should add more stuff downton, if thats even possible.
