If this has already been posted my bad. I did use the SEARCH tool.

My dad brought this up. Saints CB Tracy Porter went to Indiana and he's from Port Allen. He went to Indiana during the same time Dinardo was coaching there. Most likely he was recruited by Dinardo himself.

Just thought this was kind of cool.

DiNardo din't want him. He committed to Indiana. Saban came in and tried to recruit him. Porter lived up to his committment.

I believe I read this.

Dinardo was coach at Indiana at the time so how could he not want him?

Yes, DiNardo recruited him at IU....we jumped on late....stuck with Indiana because they had been wanting him from the start.

He originally played basketball until one day the football coach needed an extra in a 7 on 7 drill....he tore it up. The rest is history.

FAIL!!!
Dinardo knew of him from his days at LSU and recruited him to IU. LSU never talked or offered him. Rivals database shows he was listed as a ZERO star. At least thats what Porter himself told me at the walmart signing he had a couple weeks back and checking the rivals database confirms the zero star rating.......

Well that is the reason then. Our fans only want 5 star and elite 4 stars. anything lower is not worthy of LSU........

I would have to see a link on this. Saban tried to recruit a commit from Indiana. Didn't he just bash a coach for doing this to him?

Saban never tried to recruit porter. He was as I stated earlier a zero star on rivals, hell they didn't even have his picture in the datbase.

No doubt this proves the star system is just a little flawed. It doesn't measure heart, just ask Jacob Hester.

From what I remember, the only reason that Porter was recruited by Dinardo is because his HS coach had a good relationship with GD since his days in BR. Porter's HS coach pimped him to Dinardo since he was an unknown (Porter) talent due to his lack of playing exp.

So, from what I remember, nobody really recruited Porter. Saban damn sure didn't.

No, what it proves is its not 100% accurate. You will find more 5 and 4 stars make the NFL than zero stars.

Richard Morales was Port Allen coach when Tracy was there. He talked Tracy into playing football. Morales shopped Porter to every D1A coach he could with little response. Morales did know Dinardo from his days in B.R. and from coaching clinics. He made a highlight film of Porter, sent it to Dinardo. Dinardo asked he he would agree to play receiver and if it didn't work out would he play DB. Morales, Porter and dad agreed. What got him the scholly was the fact that he was a potential game breaker in the return game. Incidentally, Morales was Chad Jones' defensive coach at Southern Lab & Lionel Turner's at Walker.

No. It proves he had very little experience coming out of high school.

We miss players like this who have little or no experience at the position they are cut out to play. Coaches make up their mind on stats. Too bad. There is no measure for the size of heart a player has.

Overall, the star system is still pretty accurate, though. Has a few misses, but it's generally solid. I also think I read he didn't start playing football til his senior year in high school, hard to get noticed by a recruiting service, then.
