The longest NFL combine broadjump was 11 feet 5 inches. Max Emfinger said he witnessed Williams do a broad jump of 139 inches (11 feet 6 inches).

"It's a standardized test of power, basically," San Diego Chargers college scout Tom Gibbons said. "It's been done for years, so it gives us a starting point and something to compare the players to each other.

Top broad jumps for WR's from last years NFL combine: Mike wallace, Massaquoi, Heyward-bey, Kenny Britt, Austin Collie.... None of which came close (highest at ten feet nine inches) to William's number

I know its just the broad jump but it sounds like it is a pretty good test of power/athleticism.
Williams sounds like a badass to me, we may have just found a diamond in the rough after all

He could probably dive into the endzone from the 10 yard line

My high school coach always said the vertical and broad jumps were always the best indicator of natural athletic ability.

He was making a joke that it was the extra 1" that made it impressive.

Like saying Usain Bolt ran a 9.58 / 100m and a mere 9.57 is not that impressive.

At least I hope that it was a joke

Hope he's not going to train for a bronze or silver metal in the broadjump, then. Jeez, its just a measurement. There's no broadjumping in football, unless he can QB sneak(leapfrog) over the line on short yardage plays.

Is it your contention that this measurement doesn't give us any insight into the capability of the recruit in terms of his athletic abilities? (.e.g strength , leg power, flexibility, burst)?

That knowing this is not as useful as measuring the 40 time or say weight lifted or vertical reach?

No,its a great measure of athletic ability. Just alot more to the game, but he has a good base to build upon.

Agreed - It sounds very cliched but if the player is willing then technique can be taught but natural abilities is genes and either you have it or you don't.
