LHSAA passes new GPA rules.

I have not found a link but it did pass. I think this is good for Louisiana . Too many good Louisiana student athletes don't make the grades to get into LSU .
Also they voted to not allow home schooled students to participate in high school sports.

the issue was that home schooled students could play for the local high school team. That really doesnt make any sense.
There could be a home schooled team of just home schoolers, but to allow them to not go to school and get to play high school sports for a school is rediculous.
The CHEF-BR home school team is a good team, and for them. But if you dont attend that school, you shouldnt beable to play for that school.

What kind of a parent do you have to be to let your child play football if he is making a 1.5? That is bad parenting with a capital P. I realize I don't know every single situation and there might be a few exceptions. As a general rule in most cases any child below a 2.0 should be concentrating on school work not on athletics of any kind. Students who are doing better now get rewarded and this will push others on the border to do better. This is all good for Louisiana. It does not take that much work to make a 2.0. Consider you have classes like PE, Art, Home Ec., etc that can boost a GPA.

Think about what your asking here. Parents who live vicariously through there kids, and think they are surely going to make it in the NFL. Most often these kids don't even make it. But they are willing to risk the kids education to take that one chance at a paycheck.

back in the day when i played you had to maintain a 2.0 that was in 75-79 though

So players may actually be able to read when they finish HS? Nice idea.
I really see this as a huge benefit to these kids. Makes them realize the importance of grades early and not realize grades are important only when its too late and a big time school comes to look at them.

A Neville Tiger from back then. I was at Southwood 77-81. Good to see another North Louisiana guy. Oh, and every extracurricular activity then require a minimum of a 2.0, many a 2.5.

If you allow everybody that does not use a public school to stop paying taxes - the public school system would crumble..
I am glad they upheld the rule for ONE reason. Academic standards. How do you know that a home school kid is actually doing the same work and passing as the kids in school. Too much wiggle room - IMHO.

They have to take the same state tests that the kids going to the public schools must take. Tim Tebow was homeschooled. If you ever saw the public schools in New Orleans, you wouldn't ask this question.

I really do not know the laws of home schooling in each state so I should just STFU but I think in Louisiana all you need to take and pass the the standardized tests.

There are "valedictorians" from some of the Orleans Parish public schools that have had problems passing the standardized tests.

I agree. I am just saying that without some kind of internal control - there is WAY to much room for cheating.

The home schooled kids in the state are the least concern I have for any "cheating." They also have to take those tests while being observed from state authorized people.

But it is only one test to get to 9th grade and one test in 12th grade (i think)
ETA: In fact - In Louisiana I am not even positive that the homeschoolers are required to take standardized tests.

The people I've known that homeschooled their kids now have young adults that are either in college or have graduated from college (Baylor, University of Texas and LSU).
